I just realized I never posted this picture. These are the books I got for Christmas and my birthday (Dec 29). I'm excited to dive in, especially the tagged book.
#shortstory #booked2023 I am not always a huge fan but liked the idea behind these, retellings or interepretations of very local folk tales from across the UK and Ireland. Between the Sea and the Sky was fabulous and could probably be a full nov. I also really enjoyed the Panthers Tale and think I‘d read anything else by almost all contributors. This is also my spring second quarter of booked 2023 completed ! (Cover is also awesome)
4☆ These feminist, contemporary retellings of forgotten British folktales were delectable! These authors have shown that the essence of folktales never really leaves us. Offering insight into times past that here connect to our current world. Their potency and darkness transmuted, a warning, a lesson, brimming under the surface of our lives. Entertaining and pulsing with the sinster, and gruesomeness of humanity. #bookreview
Thank you so much @BeeMagical ! You spoiled me! I can‘t wait to read all of these books! Brought Beetle & the hallowbones to work with me today to read at lunch! I love the it all. Those matcha gummies are so good! I was also almost out of matcha tea so it‘s great timing! So much fun stuff! Did you make the keychain? It‘s gorgeous!

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join the fun if you want.
This is day 122

Either they wouldn't believe me and I'd be laughed out of a job, or they would believe me and you'd be taken away and locked up in a lab and tested for the rest of your life. I can't tell the true story of my work. I can't tell the true story of my child. So what story is there for me?
With no one to console her then, she grew haunted, pale and thin. I use this description simply because it's the way to write about sympathetic grieving women. I'm pretty sure just as many grieving women get red and shiny and fat, but I did say 'sympathetic', didn't I. As everyone knows, you don't get to eat a hearty meal and have sympathy too.
@batsy Thank you so much for a delightful #littlechristmasswap package! 😍 The book and chocolates are perfect and many thanks for the Du Maurier book, my birthday gift 🥰. I love everything. Much love to you, friend, and may 2021 brings you good health, and many glad tidings! ❤️
Thanks for organising, great job @bookish_wookish #lcs
I really enjoyed these unsettling reconfigurations of traditional folk tales. Dark and clever and atmospheric, it's a really strong collection with an excellent variety of voices. There were a couple that were slightly weaker but I loved almost all of them. Naomi Booth's story is so good I've now bought two of her books.
I only managed to read three of these stories last night (Daisy Johnson. Naomi Booth, and Irenosen Okojie) but I'm already loving it. Dark, complex, eerie tales that speak right to the root of you the way all good folk tales should. Can't wait for the rest.
