NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER A Cotton Malone adventure involving a flaw in the United States Constitution, a mystery about Abraham Lincoln, and a political issue thats as explosive as it is timelynot only in Malones world, but in ours September 1861: All is not as it seems. With these cryptic words, a shocking secret passed down from president to president comes to rest in the hands of Abraham Lincoln. And as the first bloody clashes of the Civil War unfold, Lincoln alone must decide how best to use this volatile knowledge: save thousands of American lives, or keep the young nation from being torn apart forever? The present: In Utah, the fabled remains of Mormon pioneers whose nineteenth-century expedition across the desert met with a murderous end have been uncovered. In Washington, D.C., the official investigation of an international entrepreneur, an elder in the Mormon church, has sparked a political battle between the White House and a powerful United States senator. In Denmark, a Justice Department agent, missing in action, has fallen into the hands of a dangerous zealota man driven by divine visions to make a prophets words reality. And in a matter of a few short hours, Cotton Malone has gone from quietly selling books at his shop in Denmark to dodging bullets in a high-speed boat chase. All it takes is a phone call from his former boss in Washington, and suddenly the ex-agent is racing to rescue an informant carrying critical intelligence. Its just the kind of perilous business that Malone has been trying to leave behind, ever since he retired from the Justice Department. But once he draws enemy blood, Malone is plunged into a deadly conflicta constitutional war secretly set in motion more than two hundred years ago by Americas Founding Fathers. From the streets of Copenhagen to the catacombs of Salzburg to the rugged mountains of Utah, the grim specter of the Civil War looms as a dangerous conspiracy gathers power. Malone risks life, liberty, and his greatest love in a race for the truth about Abraham Lincolnwhile the fate of the United States of America hangs in the balance. Praise for Steve Berry and his Cotton Malone series In Malone, [Steve] Berry has created a classic, complex hero.USA Today Malone, a hero with a personal stake in the proceedings, is a welcome respite from the cold, calculating superspies who litter the genre.Entertainment Weekly Steve Berry gets better and better with each new book. The Huffington Post Savvy readers . . . cannot go wrong with Cotton Malone.Library Journal Berry raises this genres stakes. The New York Times I love this guy.#1 New York Times bestselling author Lee Child From the Hardcover edition.

Some misquoted Bible verses and some imaginary historical documents set the background for the book. A renegade group of Mormons set out to destroy the US. Malone, Cassiopeia and Luke are all pulled in to stop the plot.

Ever since Steve Berry has gone from European history to American history I haven't enjoyed his adventures as much. This one was ok in the end but with lots of slow historical parts.

This is my 2nd book for the 1st week of the #bookaweekreadingchallenge. It‘s the 9th book of the Cotton Malone series by Steve Berry. If you want to read this series, you should start with book 1, The Templar Legacy. These are great adventure reads. I learned more about Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War and the Mormon Church. Was the Civil War only about slavery? Was it a necessary war? Learn a stunning truth that can tear the United States apart.

Andrew65 I do overall enjoy this one even if Cassiopeia was acting strange, I think Steve Betrybgave a good and be,ieve context for it, luuurvve and the blindness it can cause. Loved learning about Lincoln, the constitution and the Civil War. Can‘t wait to get to book 10 to find out what happens between Cassiopeia and Cotton. 6y

EadieB @Andrew65 I took a peek and flipped the pages of the next book and didn‘t see Cassiopeia‘s name at all. 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB Naughty 😂 But oh no, they may need a break for a while! I gave it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Given good details on Librarything why I gave it 4 Stars. (edited) 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 I gave 3 stars but marked it as a pick because the story deserves 4 but the characters of Cassiopeia and Cotton were out of character so I marked it down. (edited) 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB Whilst they acted out of character I felt there was reason and I felt Steve communicated this well. Love and it‘s emotions can cause us to act out of character. (edited) 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 That is true! I did feel bad giving it a 3. I should probably change mine to 4. 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB My own feeling is it was worth more than a 3 but we all react differently to books and favourite characters. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 I guess I felt persuaded by the others but now you have persuaded me to switch to a 4 and I‘m going to do it. 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB Only if you feel that it is right. 3.5 is another option. Sometimes we can be affected by what others score it. I always try to decide on a star rating before looking at other‘s ratings because so easy to be swayed. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 Changed to 4 because I have give 4 on Goodreads anyway. 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB That makes perfect sense! 6y

Starting The Lincoln Myth, which is book 9 in the Cotton Malone Series, as part of a Group Read on Librarything. Hoping to learn more about Lincoln and the American Civil War as part of this.

EadieB @Andrew65 Read this in 2014 when it first came out but don‘t remember it. 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB I know the feeling, I looked at a book today that I read 2-3 years ago, and from the blurb I couldn‘t remember it yet gave it a five star rating! 6y
Itchyfeetreader I read the first few of these but did not know they were up to number 9 6y

EadieB @Andrew65 We read so many books that you can‘t keep them all in your head. 6y
Itchyfeetreader @andrew65 whoops! Quick look on my kindle says o got as far as number 5. Something to add to a beach holiday read I think! 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB That‘s the problem! But a nice problem to have. 😊 6y
Andrew65 @Itchyfeetreader They are entertaining reads. 6y

Steve Berry always interweaves history with a fast paced thriller. Having said that, I was bored. Probably not his fault and more a life situation thing on my end. I‘ll give it a pick just in case.

My least favorite Steve Berry book by far. The plot was interesting enough, but one of the female characters was not acting like herself, and the final act could have been fifty pages shorter and still have gone where it needed to go.
