I did manage to cobble together my #BookSpin list last night before falling asleep. Yesterday was our first day post-antibiotics (two weeks of IV and four weeks of oral suspension, three times a day) and we‘re finally getting back to a normal sleep schedule! Maybe I‘ll get some more normal reading time soon.

keys_on_fire Hope your recovery goes smoothly and swiftly! 2y
ravenlee @keys_on_fire thank you - I didn‘t realize I wasn‘t clear: it‘s my daughter. She‘s recovering from a really scary staph infection in October that necessitated two surgeries and massive amounts of antibiotics. See - I need sleep! But I do thank you for the good wishes. 2y
Bookwomble I hope your daughter's feeling more comfortable now 💖 2y

This was a good YA book about finding new friends when you feel like you‘ve outgrown your group. As an adult reading it, there were a couple of choices made by the characters (like to drive to another state at night without telling the parents) that made me anxious! But I think it‘s relatable to younger readers. I‘ll definitely read more of her work.

I was pleasantly surprised. This started rather one-dimensionally, but I reminded myself that it was aimed at a young adult audience. As the plot progressed, Quindlen did weave the pieces and characters together in a compelling way, reminding me of the emotional pains of adolescence.

Cute, quick YA with LGBTQ characters and plot lines as well as growing up and managing friendships as well as romantic relationships. #ARC #Netgalley

The author will be in conversation virtually with Joshilyn Jackson and Becky Albertalli on August 18th!!! It‘s free and fun!

It would have been a five star review if it wasn‘t for that Chic-fil-A visit. Quindlen does a great job in conveying that doubt in one‘s mind as we ponder on whether or not our feelings are reciprocated and the anxiousness of wondering if we should be the ones to take the next step. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #LGBTQYA #LGBTQ #lesbianromance #gaycharacter #bisexualcharacter #lesbiancharacter #lesbianprotagonist

SincerelyWinona I originally thought it was a weird choice for the book too, but it‘s a southern thing. They go to Waffle House which is pretty conservative as well. Also, I didn‘t start to understand that my spending money had political power until after I graduated college, so I can understand high schoolers just wanting time with friends and food. 4y

I was enjoying this one. I read 137 pages in one sitting until the three queer bffs went to Christian Chicken.

sarahbarnes SERIOUSLY. 4y
Hollie Yes!! 4y
KathyWheeler I‘m sure some queer folks do go there, but none of my family and friends are among them. In support of them, I don‘t either. So it‘s odd to see it in a book. (edited) 4y

A wonderfully warm, heartfelt #YA about growing beyond the person your old friends think you are, 1st kisses, & queer friendship. Codi, JaKory, & Maritza (lesbian, gay, bi) are Netflix watching homebody BFFs. When they go to a party, Codi becomes friends w/ a closeted jock. Through him she meets a girl who might like her back. She finally has some teen adventures. But she hides it from her BFFs. Beautifully complex relationships, sparks of insight

"You grow up with these ideas about Teenagers, about their wild, vibrant, dramatic lives of breaking rules and making out and Being Alive, and you know it's your destiny to become one of them someday, but suddenly you're 17 and you're watching people cannonball into a swimming pool in the pouring rain, and you realize you still haven't become a real Teenager, and maybe you never will."
