I was really excited for this book. I loved The Kind Worth Killing, plus the MC owns a mystery bookstore- what‘s not to like? Unfortunately the ending/reveal ruined it for me.

I abandoned this 3 years ago, and decided to try it as an audiobook this time around. I‘m glad I did- I was totally engrossed by Lilliet Berne‘s tale. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

UnabridgedPod I loved that one too—so good on audio. 3d

I really wanted to like this more than I did. I loved the concept of each house having it‘s own signature magic, the exploration of privilege vs. Alex‘s upbringing/past, and of course, a strong female MC, but in the end it just fell flat. #unpopularopinion

Samplergal Bummer. I just bought this bc it was B&N book club. 3d

Fantastic beginning to this series. We follow Emmy as she learns some dark truths about herself, her father, and the people she grew up around. Horrific at times, but also startlingly sweet and uplifting. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

I was so upset at the lack of fairy tale vibes in The Night Country by M. Albert, that I read this book in one sitting. The volume opens with one of my favorite fairy tales, The Boy Who Drew Cats, and the rest of the tales did not disappoint. Plus, the cover is gorgeous! This is the first time in a while that I “angry read” a book. 🤨🙃

I‘m so disappointed by this follow-up to The Hazel Wood. The first 2/3 of the book was all over the place, and lacked the charm of the fairy tales present in book one. The plot finally tightened up towards the last third of the book, but it was too little, too late. 2.5 ⭐️
