I didn‘t feel like reading “The Earl I Ruined” at work, so I‘m starting in on “City of the Plague God” instead. A cup of tea and a good book. What more do I need?

Such an interesting book, not just because it‘s a plague god book during a pandemic; also a lesson on being a hero. What it really takes. Of which I loved the whole Flower of Immorality bit. Dauod had me for a major loop, my gosh. What struck me most, was the side comment on being a jihad; a struggle for good. Lord knows we‘ve blown that out. It was just a refreshing book about getting past being mean and letting go to be better

Perfect book to be reading while quarantining. One of my students tested positive, having made me in contact with a positive case. I can‘t get over how this book was written-and completed- prior to COVID coming out.
The stories of Gilgamesh and Nergal are starting to come back to me as I read. Coming back from those real old lessons from my elementary bible study groups

Its always great to hear the author is writing from past experiences. In this case, writing a Muslim teen living a busy life in New York (always) when the Mesopotamia god of disease shows up threatening to unleash a massive plague.
I‘ve been excited for this book since I realized it‘s relation to quarantine -though he says he wrote it before COVID. I see representation and both living parents

Overall story rating 4/5 stars. I‘ve rounded up my final rating to 5 stars for the author‘s note on the importance of the book and what it means to him. While geared toward a younger audience, this book tackles important topics like Middle Eastern representation in books and media and Islamophobia. Also, reading a book about a plague while living in a current pandemic was interesting.

Another fantastic book from the Rick Riordan Presents imprint. This one has Sikander Aziz tangling with ancient Mesopotamia gods. Needless to say, the story has everything you expect from one of these books—danger, adventure, friendship, family, ancient gods & demons stalking the streets of New York—and it is, of course, an adrenaline rush from pretty much the first page. As always, an enjoyable read. On sale 1/12/21

I‘ve never read any of Riordans books, or any of the imprints yet. Not that I don‘t want to, just haven‘t gotten around to it yet. Go figure that the one I desperately decide I need to read is the one centered around Mesopotamia. Thanks #netgalley this is going to be a ride.

Came home from work with another stack of ARCs. Queen‘s Peril is already out, the others are all out in the next few months with the exception of the tagged book which is out in January. Lots of middle grade books including one by Lev Grossman which I‘m very excited to read. Also really looking forward to Brennan‘s YA novel based on Pacat‘s Fence comic which I really enjoy. Can‘t wait to dive in!
