Mehso-so

A so-so read to me. It was a nice read, but I wasn't wishing I could read it, if I was doing something else.

She missed an opportunity to discuss the colonization of India and the troubles there.

ARC I have had on my shelf awhile. I know that's bad.

I had hopes that this book would be a love letter to Bombay and the people who were occupied within it. However this book was about two white occupiers who fell in love and have a truly tragic wartime story that happens to have the backdrop of Bombay. And for that I was disappointed.

Love and war....injury and loss?

This book had everything going for it for me: war torn lovers, WWI & 1920s time period, exotic locale; but while I really enjoyed the first half of the story, the final third was just too dramatic and had too many plot contrivances that were somehow (inexplicably) wrapped up neatly in the final chapter. Also, as @Saknicole said to me “could have been sexier.”

An excerpt of a text I sent @Kimberlone on the subject: It was good, but way too much waiting till the last moment to wrap shit up. Also could have been way sexier.

Oh, I really loved this one! I wasn‘t sure what to expect from this historical romance, but I loved the characters & the WWI time period. The book opens with Maddy‘s return to the India in 1914. Now an adult, she‘s a bit adrift in being reunited with the mother who never visited her in England. A whirlwind romance on the cusp of the war changes everything- & I think I read most of this with my heart in my throat! Heartbreaking & entrancing!

A compelling story that certainly made me very invested in the outcome for the central couple. But gets a bit bogged down towards the end with too many obstacles leading up to that outcome. #historical #romance #arc #jennyashcroft

Saknicole Definitely way too many obstacles at the end 4y

Thank you Netgalley and St Martins press for providing me a copy of Meet me in Bombay by Jenny Ashcroft for an honest review.

This story is beautiful and heartwarming. It deals with love and separation and never giving up. This book takes place in 1913 and there is a war going on. After Madeline and Luke are married Luke is called off to go to war.

BookNightOwl Then one day Madeline gets devasting news that Luke has been killed. Grief overtakes Madeline and she has a hard time believing this to be true.

I enjoyed the story and the characters from beginning to end. A fantastic read.

I bought this on a whim in September as I felt like reading some romance. Set just before the outbreak of WWI, Maddie meets Luke and promtly fall in love and marry. He is sent away to war. Part of the story revolves around the fact that Luke suffers from memory loss, so will he remember her! I really enjoyed it. Desperately wanted a happy ending! I won't say anything! #books

This book is so good. I sort of started skimming toward the end because I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen.

Maddy moves back to India, falls in love, and then WWI happens. I don't want to spoil it for you. I definitely recommend this.

TheAromaofBooks Oh this one sounds lovely, and I love that cover!! Also, I've definitely been known to read the end of a book so that I can slow down and enjoy the middle. 😂 4y
