In the aftermath of the Great War, the line between friend and foe may be hard to discern, even for indomitable former Secret Service agent Verity Kent, in award-winning author Anna Lee Hubers thrilling mystery series. Peacetime has brought little respite for Verity Kent. Intrigue still abounds, even within her own family. As a favor to her father, Verity agrees to visit his sister in Wiltshire. Her once prosperous aunt has fallen on difficult times and is considering selling their estate. But there are strange goings-on at the manor, including missing servants, possible heirloom forgeries, and suspicious rumorsall leading to the discovery of a dead body on the grounds. While Verity and her husband, Sidney, investigate this new mystery, they are also on the trail of an old adversarythe shadowy and lethal Lord Ardmore. At every turn, the suspected traitor seems to be one step ahead of them. And even when their dear friend Max, the Earl of Ryde, stumbles upon a code hidden among his late fathers effects that may reveal the truth about Ardmore, Verity wonders if they are really the huntersor the hunted . . . Praise for Anna Lee Hubers Penny for Your Secrets Stellar mystery . . . a great read for fans of the series and all who enjoy Downton Abbey-era fiction. Booklist

Finished this on the plane ride to Raleigh on Tuesday. These are easier to listen to than to read 🤣. This one had Verity working all 3 of the men in her life, Sydney (still don‘t like him), Max and Alec. (Not sure if it‘s Alex or Alec). Still wish Verity was with Max 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think this series is getting better as it goes along. This was a really well plotted and well written. There were a couple twists that I didn‘t see coming. I wouldn‘t recommend this if you haven‘t read at least the previous book, however. A significant portion of the plot is a continuation of that storyline. But I love these characters and the author‘s style.

Bookzombie I need to pick up the second book. This series doesn‘t suck me in like Lady Darby. 4y
Lynnsoprano @Bookzombie It‘s not immediately absorbing like Lady Darby, I agree. It took until the third book for me to go, wow, this is great. But it was definitely worth hanging with it. And I really love Verity. 4y
Bookzombie @Lynnsoprano That‘s really encouraging! 🙂 4y

I‘ve been AWOL for the last week or so. Haven‘t really been able to get my head into my book, even though it‘s really good. But I‘m under orders to take it easy with my feet up—literally. I have a sore knee. Nothing major, not the knee itself, but supporting structure called the IT band. Hubby is being fantastically supportive, so I‘m going to enjoy a couple days of uninterrupted reading time.

PurpleyPumpkin Aww, sorry to hear about your knee. But found reading time is a silver lining. Enjoy!😉 4y
Reviewsbylola Feel better and enjoy your recovery. 😉 4y
Bookzombie Hope you are feeling better soon. Enjoy your reading time. 💕 4y

This released today and was on my Kindle when I opened it this morning. Huber is one of the few authors whose books are automatic preorders for me. Plus I love this cover! I finished the book I was reading last evening, which turned out to be great timing. I can jump right in. Sorry, Mt. TBR, not attacking you today. 😂

I think this may be my favorite of the series so far...and I‘ve loved them all! Huber has a way with developing 3D characters that pull you into their worlds and leave you bereft at having to leave. This one boasts action, two interconnected mysteries (only one of which is resolved), an arrogant, nasty villain and all of Verity‘s friends/former love interests. I devoured this and am now hating that I blew through it so swiftly. Recommend. 5/5⭐️

CoverToCoverGirl I love and anticipate ALL of her books! 4y
