Batman: the Three Jokers
Batman: the Three Jokers | Geoff Johns
13 posts | 21 read | 7 to read
30 years after "The Killing Joke" changed comics forever, "The Three Jokers" re-examines the myth of who, or what, is the Joker and what is at the heart of his ongoing battle with Batman? New York Times bestselling writer Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok, the writer/artist team that waged the "Darkseid War" in the pages of Justice League, reunite to tell the ultimate story of Batman and The Joker! After years of anticipation, the epic story is finally here: find out why there are three Jokers, and what that means for the decades-long battle between the Dark Knight and the Clown Prince of Crime. In this powerful, emotional story Batman, Batgirl and Red Hood - all past victims of the Joker - work together to solve a mystery unlike anything they've ever faced before!

Intriguing premise. Three distinct individuals instigate a crime wave in Gotham. But all three are the Joker. How can he be in three places at the same time? Has he always been three people all this time? Along with Barbara and Jason, two victimized by the clown prince of crime, can Bruce stop the three Jokers and get the bottom of what‘s going on? Really fun, highly recommended!

I appreciate the reflections on the different characterizations of the Joker over the years, the at least bare minimum attempt of the Batfam to try and get Jason to talk about his feelings, the exploration of 'why Red Hood', I'll even go for the deliciously soap opera 'family reveal' at the end, but there's one or two exceptionally trite/frustrating moments in here that I cannot forgive. To each their own canon. 🦇

8/150 When I first heard about this, I thought, what a bad idea. Now that I've read it, I can confirm that it was definitely a stupid, horrible idea. All these years, Batman hasn't been facing one Joker, but actually three of them; The Criminal, The Clown and The Comedian. Each an aspect of the Joker's psychotic personality. Who was the first Joker? Who's the original one? We are left never knowing. Two big thumbs down 👎👎

KathyWheeler So they basically rewrote the history of the Joker and made him into three people? Why? 2y
RamsFan1963 @KathyWheeler I think part of it was to explain inconsistencies in the character over the years. Sometimes the Joker was almost a playful prankster, then other times a ruthless killer who could beat Robin with a crowbar. 2y

TieDyeDude Agreed. I am disappointed I purchased this. Nowhere near as interesting as it thinks it is. 2y
KathyWheeler @RamsFan1963 Thanks for the explanation of why they might f do o this. (edited) 2y

This story arc is very interesting in its concept (there has always been more than one Joker in Gotham City). The focus on Joker‘s impacts on Batman, Red Hood, and Batgirl individually is addressed through brilliant artwork from both the present day and the past.

My largest complaint with this one is that it‘s simply way too short; I would‘ve loved for this story to be longer!

TieDyeDude I felt it was both too short and too long. I would have loved a longer run with a deeper story, but as it was, I felt like they didn't want to dive too deep with just three issues, but erred on the side of caution and kept it to shallow. I also didn't care for the Red Hood/Batgirl shipping. 3y

#MoviesInMay #JackNicolson

I‘ve think I‘ve only ever seen Nicholson in Batman as Joker. I thought it was he tagged book was appropriate as there have been multiple Jokers throughout the Batman series.

Klou Perfect choice! He was an excellent Joker! 3y

The finale was intriguing, but I was really hoping for something better. I don't feel like the story justified the three oversized issues. I was annoyed with the tension between Barbara and Jason Todd. Aside from the twist at the end, I didn't really think there was much worth recommending, though the art is excellent.

Great new take on the Batman origin story. Get to see a more raw and emotional Bruce Wayne trying to obtain justice.

Do you know what body armor says about a guy? It says he needs body armor.

I read this novel a few years ago but still remember this quote 😆.

This novel has stunning artwork! The story was engaging and crisp. It gives a different twist to Bruce's story with small tweaks of change here and there. Over all it was an interesting twist to the batman story.
