The first book in a highly original and delightfully clever crime series in which Queen Elizabeth II secretly solves crimes while carrying out her royal duties. It is the early spring of 2016 and Queen Elizabeth is at Windsor Castle in advance of her 90th birthday celebrations. But the preparations are interrupted when a guest is found dead in one of the Castle bedrooms. The scene suggests the young Russian pianist strangled himself, but a badly tied knot leads MI5 to suspect foul play was involved. The Queen leaves the investigation to the professionals--until their suspicions point them in the wrong direction.Unhappy at the mishandling of the case and concerned for her staff's morale, the monarch decides to discreetly take matters into her own hands. With help from her Assistant Private Secretary, Rozie Oshodi, a British Nigerian and recent officer in the Royal Horse Artillery, the Queen secretly begins making inquiries. As she carries out her royal duties with her usual aplomb, no one in the Royal Household, the government, or the public knows that the resolute Elizabeth will use her keen eye, quick mind, and steady nerve to bring a murderer to justice.SJ Bennett captures Queen Elizabeth's voice with skill, nuance, wit, and genuine charm in this imaginative and engaging mystery that portrays Her Majesty as she's rarely seen: kind yet worldly, decisive, shrewd, and most importantly a great judge of character.

No, no, no. The story turned from slightly amusing to utterly ridiculous. The resolution of the crimes was anti-climactic to say the least. The writing was awful. I still have no idea how to tell the Russian male characters apart...and not sure it even mattered.

The queen would not be pleased with this book. 😉

A murder takes place in Windsor Castle and Queen Elizabeth is determined to find the perpetrator with the help of her aide Rozie. This was an enjoyable cozy with a great audiobook narrator. I think I've added another series to my TBR list. #MarvellousMarch #Booked2021 #AboutARealOrFictionalRoyal @Andrew65 @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage

This premise was irresistible to me — the Queen solves murder mysteries. She actually delegates the investigation to one of her staff, but still. There are a lot of good details in this one, and I especially liked how the Queen takes advantage of the fact that people underestimate her. I will definitely read the second book. The audiobook narrator has a perfect voice for this story.

The first book in the series in which Queen Elizabeth II secretly solves crimes while carrying out her royal duties. It is the spring of 2016 and Queen Elizabeth is at Windsor Castle in advance of her 90th birthday celebrations. Maksim Brodsky, a Russian pianist, is found dead. The Queen has been solving crimes since her teenage years as Lilibet with help from her Assistant Private Secretary, Rozie Oshodi.

EadieB SJ Bennett captures Queen Elizabeth's voice with skill in this imaginative and engaging mystery that portrays Her Majesty as she's rarely seen: kind yet worldly, decisive, shrewd, and, most important, a superb judge of character. The book was fast-paced and kept me guessing until the surprise ending. There is lots of fun banter between Prince Philip and Lilibet. 3y
EadieB Jane Copland is the audiobook narrator who did a great job. The 2nd book in the series is A Three Dog Problem which will be published 11/11/21. If you are a fan of The Royal Family then you will enjoy this one! #BookSpinBingo #StackingTheSeries #SeriesRead2021 #TheWindsorKnot #SJBennett 3y

This was fun.

After a ‘Dine and Sleep‘ at Windsor Castle, a man is found dead in suspicious circumstances. With security services blaming the staff and/or Russia, the Queen (everso discreetly) takes matters into her own hands, roping in in ‘new girl‘ Assistant Private Secretary Rozie Oshodi to help investigate.

This really was as fun as I wanted it to be. I loved the Queen‘s voice and Rozie learning more about her employer,👇🏻

rockpools the two of them manoeuvring around the men-that-know-best. The whodunnit was almost secondary - but I‘ll happily pick up the next in the series. Thank you to #ReadersFirst for the ARC.

Much as I loved this, I am going to use it for the #BBRC fake diversity category. As a capable, proactive, young black woman from a poor background in a world of white privately-educated men, the only issue she faced was people being ‘a bit surprised‘ to see her.

I‘m on a #ReadersFirst roll - these arrived yesterday. The queen solving murders and dancers writing books with exceedingly shiny naff covers 👍🏻. Plus a new series of Strictly starts tomorrow (I think) 💃🏻🕺🏽.

I‘m also wondering when in the world I‘m going to manage to read anything 😬

Birdsong28 So glad to hear you won! Unfortunately I haven't had as good luck as you have 😔 Enjoy!!!📚 📖 4y
rockpools @Birdsong28 Oh no - I‘m sorry! I do wonder if they try and lure you back in if you haven‘t been on the website in forever or something. I‘ve only requested 1 since Anton‘s last year. 4y
Birdsong28 @rockpools That might be what they do. But also I get annoyed with the people who write a first impression but state they don't actually want it 😠 it feels like people who actually want these books get less of a chance to win as it adds more people for them to draw from. I know they do it to get points but it just doesn't seem fair. I think that is why I also stopped for a while as it was a combination of that and nothing I wanted. 4y
rockpools @Birdsong28 Ugh yes, that‘s so annoying! 4y
