Night Stalker: The Life and Crimes of Richard Ramirez
Night Stalker: The Life and Crimes of Richard Ramirez | Philip Carlo

"We've all got the power in our hands to kill, but most people are afraid to use it. The ones who aren't afraid control life itself."--Richard Ramirez Ten years after the murder spree that left thirteen people dead and paralyzed the city of Los Angeles with fear, his name is synonymous with Satanism, torture and sadistic murder. Yet despite the sensational nature of his crimes, no one has ever been able to tell the complex story of the killer whose seductive, brooding looks still draw women like moths to a flame--a man millions call the devil himself. Until Now. . . Painstakingly researched over three years, based on nearly one hundred hours of exclusive interviews with Richard Ramirez on California's Death Row, The Night Stalker is the definitive account of America's most feared serial murderer. From Ramirez's earliest brushes with the law to his deadliest stalking expeditions to the unprecedented police and civilian manhunt that resulted in one of the most sensational trails in California history, "The Night Stalker" is an eerie and spellbinding descent into the very heart of human evil. It is more than epic nonfiction at its brutally real-it is a true crime masterpiece.

I've been on a true crime kick lately, watching documentaries and listening to podcasts to learn more about these terrifying crimes. This book definitely fit the bill and was a fascinating look at the serial killer Richard Ramirez and his horrific killings in Los Angeles. Philip Carlo details the crime spree and the warped mind who committed them, as well as the people who brought The Night Stalker to justice.

I believe there are stories from real life that are much more horrifying than anything a novelist could come up with. Richard Ramirez and his many crimes are an example of this.

I read a fair amount of true crime, but this was one of the grisliest and hardest to read. This was long, detailed and well-researched from the killer and victims‘ early lives through all of the events of the case being open, to the trial and what happened after. I don‘t know that I need (or want) to read another book on Richard Ramirez.

I am obsessed with this book! I don‘t have a nightstand with light next to my bed. So I reasoned with my self the “need” to be able to read whenever and wherever I want. So I found on kindle unlimited and then downloaded the Audio. Not to mention while on amazon I ordered TWO more books that will have to get in line of upcoming books, the hillside stranglers and true crime stories 1. #bookobsessed #15booksafterthisone

This was an interesting true crime novel about RIchard Ramirez. The content was well displayed and the author definitely did a lot of research on the topic. He certainly also does a good job of mimicking the style of Truman Capote‘s “In cold blood”. This is definitely a good example of a piece of creative non fiction as the author uses creative license to entice the reader through the story.

For anyone who may be stalking me, I've cleaned up my Litsy TBR as well as my Goodreads one. You can find me on Goodreads at https://www.goodreads.com/cocoreads70

Foxyfictionista I've sent you a friend request on GR. My name is Buffy. 😊 7y
CocoReads @Foxyfictionista I'll be accepting it shortly. 😄 7y
Foxyfictionista Thanks! It's impressive that you've gotten your tbr list down to just over 100. I can't seem to get mine under 350. I'm actively trying to get through mine. But there's are so many more to add!! 🤣 7y
CocoReads I have to admit, that's not the full list. Those are just books I don't own that I want to read. There's more of course, I mostly write them on scraps of paper but I've been trying to be better organized and keep them digitally. 7y
CocoReads My Litsy list is more out of control. And they don't necessarily overlap. 7y

Good story.

Rachbb3 Ohmygosh! I remember being 9 years old when this was going on and I live in California. I remember being scared because nobody knew where he was, he could be anywhere. To a 9 year old that's frightening. 7y
booklvr39 I loved this story. I have a thing for serial killers! My family always quizzes me, cuz I've read about so many 7y

Gruesome, tragic, and disturbing. Carlo walks us through the crimes, Ramirez's life, the trial, and the aftermath. Carlo's account is both informative and graphic at times. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
