Y‘all. I only estimated by counting one shelf and multiplying by how many TBR shelves I have. It‘s around 300 unread physical books. I know we all have our own gauges, but that feels like a ton to me. Soooo… I‘m initiating a book buying ban (with the exception of what I‘ve preordered already and my Libro.fm and Aardvark subscriptions.)

Definitely time to concentrate on #ReadMyOwnDamnBooks! (Not sure who started this hashtag, but I love it.)

AmyG I probably have the same amount. 😬 1y
slategreyskies I have over a thousand unread books on my Kindle alone. I didn‘t count my bookshelves. Books are my favorite thing to buy. I‘m not sure I‘m ready for a book buying ban. 😳 1y
vivastory I hear ya. There is a B&N right down the street from where I live so it is a big temptation, but I could just go in & browse & add them to my library list. Often I'll find books that I weren't even aware had been released doing that. I have a ton of unread physical books & access to a fantastic library. I might need to do the same. 1y

Megabooks I feel ya! I only bought The Passenger box set on Prime Day, and I‘m trying to keep the momentum going and just read library books or my own. So hard!! Good luck!! 1y
JenReadsAlot Good luck! I was recently looking at my kindle books and that's just ridiculous! 1y
Soubhiville @AmyG oh good, that makes me feel a little better 😉 1y
TrishB I‘m preparing for retirement when I envisage I won‘t be able to buy as many! So I‘m buying for the next 10 years 😁 1y
Soubhiville @slategreyskies I only use my kindle when I‘m traveling so I didn‘t consider what‘s on there (a lot), and I have maybe 5-7 purchased audiobooks on Libro.fm, which feels reasonable. Lol. 1y
Cuilin I hear you and I‘m also guilty of this. I probably need a book buying ban too. Will I though? 😬 1y
Soubhiville @TrishB ah, a different way to think of it! I love it. 1y
Cuilin @TrishB I like this and will be using it. It was all a plan. 1y
Soubhiville @vivastory Austin has a fantastic library system too, and I love Libby for audiobooks! I just have a real weakness for book shopping. Not a bad thing necessarily! 1y
vivastory @Megabooks I was SO tempted to get that. The only reason I didn't is bc i have book 1. 1y
Eyelit I‘m in the same damn boat lol - between my kindle and physical shelves it‘s gotta be close to 1000 😳 so yeah I‘m def on a book buying ban until the holidays probably! I‘m hoping I can still complete my outstanding challenges with what I have and use the library if necessary 🤞 1y
ChaoticMissAdventures Books and plants. I buy way too many, I have impulse control but mostly only for these things. I have a bout the same amount - hovering right around 300, I mostly use the library b/c there is a deadline for me to read and return, if I just read from my shelves I am never “in the mood“ and things languish for YEARS. Best of luck on your ban, I have tried it a few times and it only works for me if I do it in short one month or so time frames. 1y
Soubhiville @ChaoticMissAdventures yes plants too! I‘ve learned through the heartache of losing a ton in our hot TX summers that gardening from June to late September is a no no, and with cats I have to be careful what types of indoor plants I get and plan where they‘ll go before I bring them home. But I do love plant buying too! 1y
Soubhiville @Eyelit we can do it! 📚💪😆 1y
AmyG @slategreyskies I forgot to count my ebooks. Add about 50 to my pile. @ChaoticMissAdventures Plants! I tend to buy the sad sale plants at our supermarket….rescue plants. Books and plants, yep. (edited) 1y
rubyslippersreads @slategreyskies I thought I was the only one with an overstuffed Kindle. 😁 1y
Meshell1313 You got this!!! 1y
dabbe I keep joining awesome Litsy group reads, and of course the books chosen are ones I don't have so I HAVE to get them somehow. I'm not patient waiting for loans from the library. I need to work on that. And maybe subconsciously that's why I'm joining these groups so that I have to buy more books. It's a never-ending full circle cycle! 🤣🤩🤣 1y
BookmarkTavern Lol I was doing so good with the #NoBuy2023 , but then I went on vacation and my tradition is to find a local bookstore anywhere I‘m staying more than a night and buy a book or two. Whoops. 😂 1y
TrishB @Soubhiville @Cuilin it‘s the most important strand of my retirement plan! 1y
bthegood @TrishB I love your retirement plan 😅 1y
Bookwomble I've 1,130 physical books on my TBR shelves 😔 I'm hoping the transhuman singularity will happen in my biological lifetime! 📚🤖📚 1y
Hooked_on_books I have over a thousand unread books. 🫣😬 Plus a bunch of ebooks. I can‘t stick to book buying bans, so I just make sure I read more of my own books than I acquire and for 3 years in a row, I‘ve reduced my unread physical book library by at least 50 books a year. I call that a win! And @TrishB I like how you think! 1y
Fortifiedbybooks I own over 900 books, with over 500 of them being physical books. I track everything on a spreadsheet (including how much I spend and how much I “save“ by reading my own books) and with the help of a few custom shelves on Goodreads. I used to do a reading challenge called Shelf Love, and I'm thinking about bringing it back, but I've never been able to really follow through with book-buying bans. 1y
MemoirsForMe I love this tag! Yay for you for tackling your TBRs head on! I‘m too afraid to count all my books. Especially all the boxes in various closets and sheds. 😳 I couldn‘t believe I have over 100 books on my Kindle alone. Not sure I can ban all book buying, but I am working toward reading more TBRs. 1y
