Mehso-so

It's not that this was bad, it's just that it was sold as "if you like Kelly Link, you'll like this" and Melissa Albert is no Kelly Link. The stories are with a very small exception too straightforward, not weird enough, or they have a moral lesson, which is not what I'm here for. But also not bad, and if slightly dark fairytales is your thing, by all means read it
My verdict is "meh".

Magical, dark tales from the Hinterland- mesmerizing and intriguing! I really enjoyed this book and think it‘s also very enjoyable without knowing the Hazel Wood books. 5🌟

Well as I‘ve just finished the second book of the Hazel Wood, I just HAD to order the tales that go along with it. I‘m going to dive right in and am happy to be back in the mesmerizing world of the dark fairytales of Hazel Wood!

This is full of dark and fun stories. It definitely adds depth to the first two books in the series. Many of the stories are interesting to read. Definitely something to read if you are looking to read at a leisurely pace. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The illustrated Tales from the Hinterland are deep, dark, and lush. They form the backbone to The Hazel Wood and The Night Country as the stories of Althea Proserpine.

The only thing I'd change about this book is the order in which I chose it! It almost would have been better to read this one before the other two. All three books are outstanding though and this collection of stories is like squeezing the last bit of juice from the orange. I love love love the dark Brothers Grimm vibes.

These short stories of dark fairy tales that are related to the Hinterland and Althea Proserpine were amazing. They are so dark and I loved them. Definitely recommend reading them as solo and especially if you've read The Hazel Wood 💜

Finally finished a book off my own shelf (please ignore the side eye from the older tbr books 😂). Despite my mixed feelings about #theHazelWood books, I did enjoy the #fairytales--which is what I wanted all along.

Up next I hope to try #AcrosstheGreenGrassFields again (the bullying at the beginning threw me off kilter for a while & I had to put it down), continue #Stormbreak, & try my hardest to continue reading more books I already own!

If you enjoyed The Hazel Wood and The Night Country, you‘ll enjoy reading the origin stories of Alice Three Times and Twice Killed Katherine found in Tales from the Hinterland. Some of the stories wandered off a bit but many were more tightly written. All are dark, dreamy (nightmares), creepy takes on fairy tales. It‘s a great companion piece to the other two books. #petsoflitsy #dogsoflitsy #rescuedogs #cozyfire #fallvibes #netgalley #ARC
