Katy Birchall's The Secret Bridesmaid is a modern British romcom about a young woman charged with pulling off the biggest aristocratic wedding of the yearand the misadventures that ensue. Sophie Breeze is a brilliant bridesmaid. So brilliant, in fact, that shes made it her full-time job. As a professional bridesmaid, Sophie is hired by London brides to be their right-hand woman, posing as a friend but working behind the scenes to help plan the perfect wedding and ensure their big day goes off without a hitch. When shes hired by Lady Victoria Swanna former model and It Girl" of 1970s London; now the Marchioness of Meadefor the society wedding of the year, it should be a chance for Sophie to prove just how talented she is. Of course, its not ideal that the bride, Lady Victorias daughter, Cordelia, is an absolute diva and determined to make Sophies life a nightmare. Its also a bit inconvenient that Sophie finds herself drawn to Cordelias posh older brother, who is absolutely off limits. But when a rival society wedding is announced for the very same day, things start to get...well, complicated. Can Sophie pull off the biggest challenge of her careerexecute a high-profile gala for four hundred and fifty guests in record time, win over a reluctant bride, and catch the eye of handsome Lord Swannall while keeping her true identity a secret, and her dignity intact? Heartwarming and hilarious, The Secret Bridesmaid celebrates the joys (and foibles) of weddings, the nuances of female friendship, and the redeeming power of love in its many unexpected forms.

Soft pick. I enjoyed this one, but was expecting more romance than I got. This story is more about Sophie winning over the trust of her client/potential friend, which was really lovely but not what I was anticipating. I also knew that of course we would eventually get THE STORY as to why the bride was being such a bitch, but no story, to me, justified her just completely immature and ridiculous behavior. There were definitely times I couldn't ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) believe that this woman was supposed to be 30 instead of, I don't know, 12. 🙄 Despite this, there were definitely some fun and funny moments, and I really liked Sophie as a person. Someone less likely to get secondhand embarrassment than me may enjoy this one more haha

This was so fun! I loved Sophie and her unique job, and the push and pull of her developing friendship with Cordelia was believable and compelling. I'm going to have to read Birchall's other books! #romcom #womensfiction

A professional bridesmaid...now that was a novel concept.

This one was a good old-fashioned chick lit, perfect for a lazy weekend read.

Loved this fun rom-com - Sophie is a professional bridesmaid ( an undercover wedding planner) and she‘s got her richest and meanest client yet. If she can help Lady Cordelia create the perfect wedding-Sophie will have a whole new fancy clientele. Naturally nothing goes smoothly and there‘s a handsome brother. Such a feel good read 👍👍💚🐉

Stayed up way too late finishing this book because
1. I loved so many of the characters
2. The characters I hated, I grew to love
3. The humor flawlessly comes off of the page and that is often hard for writers to achieve.

Problem, not a series but I still need more!

A mini library haul - I‘ve been on a bit of an ebook kick lately - so I returned all my library books that had holds on them - and picked up a couple that were waiting. We are on the final stretch of lockdown in Melbourne - so this might be my last click and collect library experience!

I loved the premise of this rom-com. The fact the your bridesmaid is supposed to support and assist you on your big day is universal but what happens when you don't have a great gal pal to fill the job. Sophie was such a lovable character.

This is exactly as smooshy as it looks. If you're looking for an unusual, unpredictable ending, this is not for you. The thing that makes this book really freaking awesome is that it's hilarious. She comes up with new ridiculous bridezilla situations that will make you laugh out loud. Because sometimes you need that.
