The Beauty of Living Twice
The Beauty of Living Twice | Sharon Stone
8 posts | 10 read | 2 to read
She was one of the most renowned actresses in the world-until a massive stroke cost her not only her health, but her career, family, fortune and global fame. In The Beauty of Living Twice, Sharon Stone chronicles her efforts to rebuild her life, and the slow road back to wholeness and health. In an industry that doesn't accept failure, in a world where too many voices are silenced, Stone found the power to return, the courage to speak up, and the will to make a difference in the lives of women and children around the globe. Over the course of these intimate pages, as candid as a personal conversation, Stone talks about her pivotal roles, her life-changing friendships, her worst disappointments and her greatest accomplishments. She reveals how she went from a childhood of trauma and violence to a business that in many ways echoed those same assaults, under cover of money and glamour. She describes the strength and meaning she found in her children and in her humanitarian efforts. And ultimately, she shares how she fought her way back to find not only her truth, but her family's reconciliation and love. Stone made headlines not just for her beauty and her talent but for her candour and her refusal to "play nice," and it's those same qualities that make this memoir so powerful. The Beauty of Living Twice is a book for the wounded and a book for the survivors; it's a celebration of women's strength and resilience, a reckoning and a call to activism. It is proof that it's never too late to raise your voice and speak out.

Reading this it seems that Ms Stone has endured some traumatic experiences both in childhood & as an adult. My rating is therefore on the way it is written rather than what was written.

It was an okay read, but it was a bit messy. It's not really laid out in a linear way, from childhood to now, there are bits of information & recollections stuck in rather haphazardly. (continued)

OutsmartYourShelf It made for a rather disjointed, choppy reading experience which didn't help my concentration much. I also found the author comes across to me as a bit of a “I'm not like other girls“ sort. I also vehemently disagree with her on the subjects of hunting & wearing fur. Overall it's rather disappointing. 2⭐

TWs: terminal illness, sexual assault, physical abuse, abortion.

Tonight‘s before bed reading brought to you by the wonderful Sharon Stone🥳🎉

Really excited for this one🤗 & will also defiantly gonna follow it up with a re-watch of the OG ‘Basic Instinct‘ (I don‘t think I‘ve seen it since my pre-pre-teens😳)movie. It‘s gotta be on something I stream from lol!

This was a great read. Sharon bared her soul and in doing so, made her history and crusades relatable.

I admire Stone for her work, her activism, and a survival instinct that‘s been well honed since childhood. That said, this book just didn‘t work for me. Her writing style is disjointed and kept me from connecting with her. Some people wanted more Hollywood tell-all. I wanted more about surviving two brain traumas. And I surmise that the TBI affected her writing style.

DivineDiana I watched an Interview with her when the book was first released. She surprised me, in a good way. 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @DivineDiana My DIL also mentioned seeing her do a lot of interviews to promote the book. I should go look on YouTube and watch a few. 3y
DivineDiana YouTube is a blessing! 🙂 3y

Stone has led an interesting life. Her relationship with her mother is front and center even as she deals with life events that her mother isn‘t present for. Her producer moves on The Quick and the Dead were particularly fascinating as Stone clearly has an excellent eye for talent.

If you‘re expecting to have tea spilled or Sharon to say anything bad about anyone (even Weinstein and Allen), then you‘re reading the wrong memoir. (So I kind of was reading the wrong memoir.) But Sharon‘s childhood, her reconciliation with her mother, her stroke, her spirituality, her charity work made this very readable. She very much still a hippie baby boomer, but whatever works! Between a pick and a so-so for me. #audiobook
