The Siren
The Siren | Katherine St. John

From Katherine St. John, author of The Lion's Den, comes another sublimely escapist thriller: When dangerously handsome megastar Cole Power hires his ex-wife Stella Rivers to play opposite him in his son's film, he sparks a firestorm on an isolated island that will unearth long-buried secrets -- and unravel years of lies. In the midst of a sizzling hot summer, some of Hollywood's most notorious faces are assembled on the idyllic Caribbean island of St. Genesius to film The Siren, starring dangerously handsome megastar Cole Powers playing opposite his ex-wife Stella Rivers. The surefire blockbuster promises to entice audiences with its sultry storyline and intimately connected cast. Three very different women arrive on set, each with her own motive. Stella, an infamously unstable actress, is struggling to reclaim the career she lost in the wake of multiple, very public breakdowns. Taylor, a fledgling producer, is anxious to work on a film she hopes will turn her career around after her last job ended in scandal. And Felicity, Stella's mysterious new assistant, harbors designs of her own that threaten to upend everyone's plans. With a hurricane brewing offshore, each woman finds herself trapped on the island, united against a common enemy. But as deceptions come to light, misplaced trust may prove more perilous than the storm itself.

Mehso-so

First 3/4 moved too slow, but the ending was good. Mostly too slow and obvious to call it a thriller, except for the end. Very different vibes than what the cover conveys.

They just make it so tempting to lie here and read, even when it‘s nice out!
This book is kinda scratching my Judith Krantz itch… totally frothy fun with twists and rich people behaving badly and a tropical island setting.

1. I think so. Hollywood stars, Caribbean island.
2. The cover is the main reason I picked up this one! It was perfect summer reading. Light, frothy, over dramatic, fun!

The Siren was a Twisty mystery. While the cover looks like light Summer Reading it does have some very dark moments which include Sexual Assault.

It was my next to last read of #SummerReading2021 - since Litsy only lets you Post one picture at a time. It's going to take more than Post. 😉

Thinking I can squeeze another into #SummerReading2021. I bought Kindle book on Sale for 3.99 earlier in the Summer. Spent this month Audible Credit on it. So I could swap back and forth.

If you‘re wanting a fast read that doesn‘t take itself too seriously this is a good choice. Told from three different character narratives it‘s a bit predictable but at the same time engrossing. A little mystery, a lot of Hollywood drama and voila. The Siren.

This is the 1st book I‘ve given 5 stars to on Goodreads in a long time. This was such an enjoyable book! The pacing was excellent & the development of the 3 narrators was stellar as well. Even though this is a book about the filming of a movie, this would make an excellent movie itself! I love good books about the behind the scenes of Hollywood. For those who‘ve read THE SIREN, who would you cast as Cole, Taylor, Stella, Jackson, & Felicity?

Jemgirl2014 I still need to review this one. It has a lot of dark undertones but I still enjoyed it very much! 3y
MyNamesParadise @Jemgirl2014 I like dark undertones. It helps balance out what could‘ve been just a simple beach read. Have you read The Lion‘s Den by the same author? I haven‘t but was wondering if I should give it a shot. 3y
Jemgirl2014 Oh, I agree about the undertones. I don't mind them. Yes! I loved "The Lion's Den" as well. Not sure I which of the two I like best since they're both so good! She also has a new title coming out. "The Queen of the Jungle". Not sure what's it's about though. ? 3y
MyNamesParadise @Jemgirl2014 I‘m glad you loved The Lion‘s Den. I‘ll have to check it out from the library soon! I saw on Goodreads where it says that‘s the title of her next book. It‘s an interesting title! 3y
Jemgirl2014 I hope you like it! I know. It does sound intriguing. I'll probably put it on my auto buy list lol 3y

A satisfying page turner in the shadow of Bill Cosby‘s release. I saw every twist coming and enjoyed it anyway.

What a ride. A saucy mystery/contemporary fiction romp into starlets and secrets. This was seriously good.

BookishMarginalia Good to hear! I bought this one yesterday just because I loved the cover! 3y

This wasn‘t a book I would normally have read but so many people have said it was a really great read. Though it wasn‘t my favorite book, I am glad that I read it.

if you loved The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo and would like more of that but with a slightly darker tone, some light thriller elements, a tropical location, and a contemporary setting- this might be your perfect summer read

This story unfolds way too slowly and all the characters are pretty much unlovable. We are given small bits at a time to a culminating ending that was just like whatever. I wanted so much to love this book, but when you give me no redeeming characters, I have a hard time to get on board. Yes, the ending could have you changing your mind, but for me it was far to late to save this book.
