Coldheart Canyon | 
so-soA a well-told story, but nothing too original. In some cases, I found it overly contrived as I didn't believe that old movie stars like Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, and Cary Grant would be trapped in endless sexual weirdness in a Hollywood canyon. But Barker creates characters you care about and the premise of a hellish world built from tiles alone is intriguing. It was a couple hundred pages too long, but they went awfully fast.

Love it when I get time for some Saturday morning reading. As a younger lad I used to claim to be super into Clive Barker but really I‘d only read one of his books and was a fan of the Hellraiser movie. But I‘ve cracked into this and am feeling reassured of my Clive Barker praise.
When an aging action star‘s plastic surgery is botched, he hides out in Coldheart Canyon to escape public scrutiny while he recovers. But his biggest fan seeks him out and is determined to get to the truth of his disappearance. As it turns out, the old #Hollywood mansion he‘s chosen was once the home of a beautiful and mysterious silent film actress — and she never truly left.

I know I said I would start on Stephen King‘s Sleeping Beauties but I was drawn to Coldheart Canyon instead. This is my first Clive Barker book & I‘m intrigued. It‘s raining cats & dogs outside and I‘m in bed, can‘t ask for anything better now.

Seriously, Clive Barker. Why are you like this. There was some really really cool stuff happening here, but you had to mash it into a trash sandwich.
Where's my shame bell, so I can ring it for myself for finishing this whole thing. I can give it points for that much - I only bail when a book is extremely boring, and this surely wasn't.
Half Price Books also had a copy of Coldheart Canyon signed by Clive Barker, but I didn't buy that one.

Incredibly amused that (a) this library audio book is signed (b) this is an extra disc whose sole purpose is to be the bearer of Clive Barker's signature.
