Pickpick

Another book with mixed reviews. I think the concept was interesting, dark and weird. A town that believe in female saints but at the same time were mysogynist, extreme and violent in their punishment against women until one of them will discover her magic, that their others like her and all of them will revealed secrets that they are not alone. “Saints” or witches? I think there will be a sequel. Not a great story but kept my attention 3/3.4⭐️

#NetGalley

I had high hopes for this one. Amity, the main character, was well developed and I loved the world created here. However, most of the other characters fell flat in comparison.

The premise of a coven of witches hiding in the woods, luring young girls away from the misogynistic cult they belong to had me invested from the start. Then the story starts to drag until the end and I lost interest.

I actually did enjoy Extasia aa a gory body horror with a focus on religious trauma and themes of the darkness inside us. There are A LOT of trigger warnings for this one. I thought the MC had good character development, though the other characters didn't. There were also some inconsistencies. Def not a book for the weak of heart and stomach, but I'm not normal so it didn't scare me. I gave it three stars.

Too dark and disturbing for my mindset right now.

Started this new YA book today! ❤📖❤ I really love Claire Legrand's writing! She always crafts young female heroines that are just so fierce, strong, and unapologetic! I can't wait to see how this book compares to her others! #catsoflitsy #littenkitten #rumpel

Clare-Dragonfly That cover definitely has my attention! 😍 3y

This is a haunting story that will keep you thinking about it long after you‘ve finished reading it. May last update holds true. The prose are beautiful & creepy. The horror elements are visceral. The sapphic witchy vibes are exactly what I hoped for. The end is satisfying. There was a moment I worried the twist was tired one - but it‘s been spun into something new and I enjoyed it in the end. CWs in comments as a spoiler - no actual spoilers.

the.bookish.valkyrie Be warned if gaslighting and malicious patriarchy given free reign are triggering for you, proceed with caution. Same for violence, threat of rape, religious trauma, and internalized misogyny. 3y

I'm about 2/3 into the ARC of #Extasia and it drops in the morning! I wish I could give a full review of it before it releases, but I'm really enjoying it and I don't want to rush the experience! The prose are beautifully creepy. The horror elements are visceral, hooking into your subconscious and lingering on the edges of your conscious mind. The sapphic witchy vibes are exactly what I hoped for. I trust Claire Legrand to deliver an epic end!🤞🏼

Almost caught up on reviews…this YA story is tricky. Solid writing & an interesting premise—one of four girls chosen to protect her town from evil discovers everything she knows or think she knows is wrong—don‘t quite make up for the story. The book touches on a number of important subjects including trauma, cults, and misogyny, amongst others, & will surely find an audience even though it likely won‘t be for everyone. An ok read. On sale 2/22/22.

I loved some of the ideas at play here (very The Year of the Witching meets Handmaid's Tale) but the execution just didn't match up. Which is especially a shame since I've loved most of what I've read by Claire LeGrand. But the story just dragged and dragged on in the Neo-Puritan cult with Amity trying to figure out her magic powers and the story didn't really get interesting until the last 20%. A shame, but maybe others will feel differently.
