A classic. Who hasn‘t read this book? It‘s funny and could boosts students confidence to continue reading.

This was one of my favorite series as a kid and would definitely be a good book series to keep in a classroom library for 4th - 5th graders.

This is a funny and relatable story about a boy, Greg Heffley, navigating going into middle school. This book has engaging illustrations and funny diary entries that capture the challenges of friendship and family life. Younger children, especially middle school aged, will love reading this book and want to continue the series.

This is the 1st book in the iconic series Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney. This story follows Greg Heffley as he navigates through his early life in school and how he interacts with family and friends. Overall, I would recommend this book and series to get lost in Gregs world

The revamping of my office/Library has been nostalgia to say the least. Pulling these off my shelf had me running down memory lane and feeling quite weepy as I reminisced about my baby boy shopping for books. The bookmark was the icing on the cake and I cannot wait for the time when that baby boy who is now 24 will shop for books with me again.

First, I know I‘m not the target audience. Second, I get it. Middle-schoolers and the personal fable (main character energy), people are flawed, etc. I absolutely see why kids would dig this series. I just really struggled with this. There were parts that were funny, but mostly I was like, “Wow. You‘re a real d-bag…” I won‘t dissuade anyone from liking/reading them, I just didn‘t connect with this.

Daisey Completely get this review. I get why kids love them, and I also love my own fluff sometimes. Yet, I also want them to read better stuff along with this. 11mo
AshleyHoss820 @Daisey There were just so many problematic things for me. I agree with you. I both get it and don‘t get it. And I‘m not one of those readers who needs a big moral lesson or likable characters, but dang…😂🤣 11mo

It's Greg Heffley's first year of middle school, and he is stressing out. His older brother Rodrick warned Greg about middle school and gave tips on how to "survive" middle school. Greg thinks he's better than most people, but in reality, he isn't. Him and his best friend, Rowley, get into a fight after Greg gets Rowley in trouble and accidentally broke his arm. Greg has no choice but to hang out with the weird kid. *More in the comments*

Oneil.Perez In school, there is a game called "cheese touch." It's like tag. A group of older boys were forcing Rowley to eat it, but Greg steps in and does it for Rowley. Greg and Rowley and friends again. If you like books like this, you should read the sequels of it. There are currently 17 books. I personally think the theme of it is friendship. Greg tried to change Rowley to be cooler so he could fit in, but that did nothing but ruin their friendship. 2y
Oneil.Perez He took his best friend for granted and had to suffer by hanging out with the weird kid. He was also jealous of Rowleys popularity. Greg changed that by eating the cheese for Rowley. 2y

Funny, tongue-in-cheek, middle grade. The voice really comes through & I can definitely see why this has been a popular series. Greg is a great character & has the appropriate naivety of a middle schooler, so it was fun to read his (mis)adventures. As an adult, it's easy to see he isn't always the best at making smart decisions, though Kinney's witty writing may not always be picked up on by younger readers. Still, a great middle grade read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

My son recommended that I start the series…so there I go. Greg Heffley is not my favorite character but I see why 8 yo get a kick out of him…I guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️

merelybookish He doesn't get better. 😐 My kid loved this series and we read them all 2y
Librariana I attempted to read the first book to keep up with what my students at the time were finding entertaining (I taught 6th - 8th grade back in the early 2000s.) I had to bail. I also never understood the Junie B. Jones or Captain Underpants crazes respectively. 2y
Smrloomis @Librariana Same. Ugh, I couldn‘t make it through any of those! Well at least kids are reading… 😅 2y
JackOBotts @merelybookish @Librariana @Smrloomis definitely not my jam, but I‘m glad he‘s reading (though I do let my son know that Greg‘s not the role model type…can‘t help it). There is a book for everyone, & this is certainly not one for me…but I know if he asks me to read more, I will. 🤷🏻‍♀️💜 2y

When Greg Heffley begins middle school, he cares a lot about popularity and being “cool”. His older brother Roderick makes sure to give him a hard time and has not given Greg a great reputation to live up to at school. Greg and Rowley are childhood best friends, but they run into a conflict when popularity issues come into play. Greg loses sight of the value of his friendship with Rowley but they eventually sort things out.
