I nearly didn‘t see if this had a tidy ending or not, as I wasn‘t really enjoying it. It felt overly long which was a problem as I really did not enjoy being inside main character Linda‘s head, and we get no other perspectives! I guessed one twist then the other came very quickly at the end, then it was over (leaving me unclear as to quite what had just happened). I‘m not sure this kind of cosy/quirky/darkly funny crime caper is for me.

Not my usual type of book, but the unique mystery setup kept me hooked! Right away, you can tell that something isn‘t quite right - either with Linda‘s situation, or possibly with Linda herself. Even as you “get to know” the main character through her own telling, you have to stop and wonder, how well can we really know another person at all?

This is my 3rd Joanna Cannon novel and I‘ve rated all three of them 5-Stars. Something about her writing clearly resonates with me.

Linda has lived in a quiet neighborhood since fleeing the dark events of her childhood in Wales. Now she sits in her kitchen, wondering if this is all there is: pushing the vacuum around and cooking fish sticks for dinner, a far cry from the glamorous lifestyle she sees in the glossy magazines.

Cleaver and engaging mystery. Something I dont usually read. Reminded me a bit of Elenor Oliphant is Completely Fine, only more sinister. This a crime/thriller set in England. Linda is a fab main character. Young women are going missing and Linda tries to track down Rebecca who lived in their house before them. Then her husband Terry is keeping odd hours at work. It all makes for a gripping and suspenseful story which keeps you guessing to the end.

I have only 100 pages left, do might try to finish today. It's my first read of March and it's quite dark, gripping and funny too.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I actually really enjoyed this book. It‘s written from the perspective of a socially awkward middle aged woman, and murders are happening in her small town. Kind of a slow burn mystery, but it‘s really more about the character herself. I recommend!

Finished this one. And there's a book shelf in the hotel for guests where this has found a new home.

The book itself is ok. My attention may have been distracted by other things.

A bit drawn out, not sure how I feel about it overall. Clever sentences and moments sometimes, but I wasn‘t overly into it most times. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Have to switch my attention to this one. It has holds on it so can‘t be renewed, the other book I started does not so…. A Tidy Ending it is for now!
