💙💙💙💙💙 1st picture book of 2024
Sigh, a terrible story, a wonderful love. Full of hope and it made me cry. To be fair I was already crying from the previous book so it wasn‘t hard….

#UnpopularOpinion, but this fell a little flat for me. It‘s a sweet story, with beautiful illustrations. The moment above was lovely. The Author‘s Note at the end is 🔥But I was expecting the story of two people finding love in a Japanese internment camp to have more development, more emotional impact in the end. Maybe I had too-high expectations, but I do think a picture book can and should have a strong story. And this was just so-so for me.

I'm going to get a hardback for the library at school.
A lovely book of people who find love under difficult circumstances. The part that Scholastic wants to edit out is in the author‘s note in the back , (see previous post ) I am very concerned where our country is headed . Found at my local indie , had to add it to the collection.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This children‘s story is set in a library at an internment camp and is based on the author‘s grandparents. A beautiful reminder that love and hope can bloom anywhere.

1. Two audiobooks: La Maestría del Amor (The Mastery of Love by Don Miguel Ruiz) and Personal Effects by Robert A. Jensen.
Four print books: American Decay (photography); Call Us What We Carry (poetry); Gender Queer (graphic novel, memoir); and The History of Love.
2. Prefer to place holds. A sample of some currently on my queue. Looking forward to the tagged title.
3. Feng Shui Modern.
A picture book of the author‘s grandparents finding each other in a US internment camp for Japanese Americans during WWII. We need books that raise awareness about this topic as I didn‘t know about it until I was an adult. Perfect for every young classroom.
This children‘s picture book is based on the true story of the author‘s grandparents‘ meeting in a Japanese-American prison camp in Idaho. Publication is expected Tuesday. Read my full review here: https://debbybrauer.org/#love-in-the-library
