All the Queen's Men
All the Queen's Men: A Novel | Sj Bennett
16 posts | 14 read | 4 to read
Sheer entertainment Bennett infuses wit and an arch sensibility into her prose This is not mere froth, it is pure confection. New York Times Book Review on The Windsor Knot Amateur detective Queen Elizabeth II is back in this hugely entertaining follow-up to the bestseller The Windsor Knot, in which Her Majesty must determine how a missing painting is connected to the shocking death of a staff member inside Buckingham Palace. At Buckingham Palace, the autumn of 2016 presages uncertain times. The Queen must deal with the fallout from the Brexit referendum, a new female prime minister, and a tumultuous election in the United Statesyet these prove to be the least of her worries when a staff member is found dead beside the palace swimming pool. Is it truly the result of a tragic accident, as the police think, or is something more sinister going on? Meanwhile, her assistant private secretary, Rozie Oshodi, is on the trail of a favorite painting that once hung outside the Queens bedroom and appears to have been misappropriated by the Royal Navy. And a series of disturbing anonymous letters have begun circulating in the palace. The Queens courtiers think they have it all under control, but Her Majesty is not so sure. After all, though the staff and public may not be aware, she is the keenest sleuth among them. Sometimes, it takes a Queens eye to see connections where no one else can.

Finally continued this fun mystery series starring Queen Elizabeth. This one involved stolen art. Enjoyable series.

There‘s something about QEII solving murder mysteries that really tickles my fancy. Rozie is a great investigator alongside the Queen and I like what Bennett does with the real people we all know.

“Sheer Entertainment” is accurate! I adored The Windsor Knot and have been saving this for a good rainy day read. I would love to see the author perhaps write about Queen Elizabeth as a younger woman solving mysteries.

2-16-23: My 19th finished book of 2023! Queen Elizabeth is at it again. The murder of an art conservator turned housekeeper at Buckingham Palace has the Queen and her assistant personal secretary, Rozie, trying to find out whodunit. Book 2 in the Her Majesty Investigates series is just as fun as book 1. The Queen keeps everyone on their toes throughout and always stays one step ahead. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣1️⃣9️⃣

This sequel to The Windsor Knot was another absolute delight. The plot managed to be both labyrinthine and engaging, and though there were a few tells, I definitely didn‘t get all the details in my own. Lots more of the Queen‘s POV in this one, which was charming and witty and clever, and of course, heavily nostalgic now. Definitely recommend for mystery lovers!

I got so emotional reading this mystery solved by none other than Queen Elizabeth. The two books in this series are well worth the time.

Hoping to finish this one today while the kidlet is at orchestra! Definitely a tinge of bitter sweetness reading it after the Queen‘s passing.

I didn't feel like the Queen was a main character in the first book The Windsor Knot, but more of a sub-charcter. The same cannot be said of this title as she is front/center to the storyline even if she must request help from others to follow leads. It's a long twisty mystery filled with subtle current events and I love the inner voice the author gave to R.M. as well as the love and banter between her and Phillip.

I just love the whole concept of this series so much. Rozie is a fun amateur sleuth, and the "insight" into the Queen's mind is pure wish-fulfillment gold. #murdermystery

This has been my nighttime book, but I had less than an hour left, so between my walk and some work listening, I finished it. I love these books where Queen Elizabeth II and her assistant, Rozie, solve mysteries. This one involves a piece of art that was stolen from Buckingham Palace. It was an interesting story. Rozie and the Queen are both great characters. The mention of political events going on outside the palace was a nice touch. #audiowalk

KathyWheeler This is my evening book right now, and I‘m enjoying it. (edited) 2y

Started this last night. I‘ve been saving it and figured since The Guardian announced The Queen‘s Jubilee Book List ( which has made my TBR explode) now was the time. Here‘s a link https://www.theguardian.com/books/2022/apr/18/the-god-of-small-things-to-shuggie.... #thebigjubileereadinglist

KristiAhlers Thanks for sharing the link I‘ve made a list myself! I love reading challenges that shove me out of my comfort zone. 2y
mcctrish @KristiAhlers I‘ve read 17 on the list and I‘m going to try and add at least one from each decade this year ( I know I will lose focus when I see shiny new books come out 😆) 2y
KristiAhlers @mcctrish oh that‘s an excellent idea! I can roll this reading challenge over to upcoming years! I‘ve already read several. Just printed out the list so I haven‘t gone through and marked what I read yet. Any excuse to buy a new book 🤣 yeah I‘m an unapologetic book junky. 2y
