This was an excellent read — lots of mystery, tension, and MONSTERS! Relatively fast-paced, with a nice twisty plot and plenty of secrets to go around. I enjoyed almost all the characters, and there are lots of questions left to be answered in book two, which I for sure will pick up. Recommend, especially for spooky season!

Just got home after visiting my beautiful grandgirls out of town. This gal is wiped from long driving and pain from injuries incurred from being hit by a drunk driver back in November. I‘ve been waiting to read this new novel so tonight with these along with TENS and heating pad in bed. Good night!😊🥰

I really loved this book, but I love the cover even more!

This is the first in a series set in Hemlock Falls, which is pretty isolated to the outside world. Winnie Wednesday and her family are outcasts as their father was a witch and traitor. Now she is trying to get her and family back in the good books by joining the Luminaries. She must win a series of trails. I enjoyed it, probably will read the next book.

I found myself mostly bored. Great concept, lackluster execution. The world-building was interesting, but not well-written. Too much telling. The protagonist & the writing both came off a bit whiny. Winnie has a strong backstory, but wound up being a fairly bland character. Meanwhile, the writing felt a bit childish. The ending is a bit abrupt & things were highly unresolved. I walked away feeling frustrated & likely will not continue the series.

I truly enjoyed this one. I run our local B&N book club so sometimes these reads can be extra. I‘m pleased to say I totally loved Winnie and the rest of the characters. There were some draggy bits but not so bad it took away from the book as a whole.

The November OwlCrate book. While some parts might have been a little predictable, I still got into it. I hate the feeling when you have like forty pages left and you realize “either this book ends terribly or there‘s going to be a sequel because too much needs to happen before everything is resolved.” I‘m so happy it wasn‘t the former, but my instant gratification state of mind near the holidays hates waiting!

Only about six chapters in so far, but I'm absolutely OBSESSED! 😍📚

This is a quick, fun YA read without a lot of dense world building or complicated plotting (which I‘ve seen a number of people complain about) that is nevertheless entertaining. Premise is simple—there are monsters in the woods & there are people who hunt them. Winnie Wednesday‘s family used to be one of the best at it until they fell into disgrace. She has a plan to fix that if she can…and with the help of a former best friend, she might succeed.

There is only one thing to do when it‘s November 1st, sunny and 66 degrees in Chicago and that is read your new book on the patio. It‘s an absolutely gorgeous fall day!

Winnie wants to protect the city from the monsters in the forest. She‘s seen one that no one else has & they don‘t believe her.

On her 16th birthday she can participate in the Luminary trials. It‘s the last chance for her family to be brought back into the community & her x-bff Jay is there for support.

While this is YA, I enjoyed it.

Just finished this one. Was seeing lots of hype for it but honestly wasn't super into it? Not much substance, main character wasn't interesting and the only juicy reveal wasn't until the end, but not interesting enough that I'd read another one. Felt very 2010 supernatural YA trilogy.

1. Probably 2 stars so far hahah.
2. Welcome to Night Vale (also reread Station Eleven, so obviously that was good, but I think picking that is cheating a bit)
3. Libraries (even though mine does not have an adult summer reading program, which I am bitter about)
