The Hanging Garden
The Hanging Garden | Ian Rankin
6 posts | 11 read | 1 to read
The ninth Inspector Rebus novel from the No.1 bestselling author. DI Rebus is buried under a pile of paperwork but an escalating dispute between the upstart Tommy Telford and Big Ger Cafferty's gang gives Rebus an escape clause. Telford is known to have close links with a Chechen gangster bringing refugees into Britain as prostitutes. When Rebus takes under his wing a distraught Bosnian call girl, it gives him a personal reason to make sure Telford goes back to Paisley and pronto. Then Rebus's daughter is the victim of an all too professional hit-and-run and Rebus knows that there is now nothing he won't do to bring down prime suspect Tommy Telford - even if it means cutting a deal with the devil.

A low pick for me. I'm not as fond of the Rebus books that focus on the gang wars in Edinburgh but it was still a good mystery.

Number 9 in his DI Rebus series sees Rebus investigating a historic war crime while keeping an eye on the up-and-coming villains on his own patch and trying to stay on the wagon. Grittier than a can of Irn Bru on a North Berwick beach on a windy day.

Mehso-so

I don‘t know. This one just didn‘t grab me. I almost DNFed it, but it picked up at the end and all the loose ends (and I mean very loose) were tied together. Gangsters, prostitution, drugs, Yakuza, Nazis, harm to family members, betrayal, suicide/murder(?), lots of blurry lines, confusion, but a satisfying ending. And a sort of cleaned up Inspector Rebus. Meh. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

First time I read this genre #tartannoir So I can‘t comment much on this, but definitely I will include these type of books in my future reading. This detective story revolves around Nazi war criminal, underworld rivals & personal life. Interesting read though I couldn‘t connect at some places. 3.5🌟

With this I finished #booked2020 #spring challenge.

This is 9th book in the series for #readyoursign #sagittarius prompt

#Gardentitles Loved the Hanging Garden in the John Rebus series. Also enjoyed The Savage Garden by Mark Mills, Tom's Midnight Garden by Philippa Peace, The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton and the In The Garden Trilogy by Nora Roberts.

I do want to read The Lavender Garden by Lucinda Riley.

Lmstraubie I loved this one. 8y
Andrew65 @Lmstraubie This was the first Kate Morton book I read and I loved it too, have read a couple of other Kate Morton books but not quite been up to the very high standard of this one. 8y

One of the shortest Rebus novels. It hits him close to home when his daughter is hurt in an accident.

Rebus with his usual set of supporting characters go on the hunt for traffickers , drug lords and nazi war criminals.
