I took Friday off from work just to have a bonus day with Delilah, who had a weird and alarming medical event just over a week ago that kicked our collective asses. She seems fine now, thankfully, and it was so fun to just have downtime with her over the weekend with great car rides and exploring walks!
I just started this book today with no expectations - a strategy that comes in handy sometimes. 🙂
Happy Sunday! 🐾🤓
This one was a huge letdown. I'm going to give it 2 stars because 80% of this book is really good. I enjoyed the survivor aspect. But I thought there would be a lot more chaos and more that happened. Also, it just ends, with no explanation of anything.
Thanks to @BeeMagical ‘s review I knew this was not going to be a “human hunt” situation otherwise I might have been disappointed. However, I‘m not really sure how I feel about it. I almost bailed early on but I wanted to see how it would play out. In some ways, I feel a little like it‘s a story that just lies there, but yet I still want to give it a pick. 🤔
Fast read that was entertaining while reading but ultimately forgettable once finished.
The story is based on a group of strangers tossed together for the filming of a survivalist reality TV show. Unfortunately, the characters were one-dimensional and I disliked all of them. There's a lot of build-up to something happening but no real explanation. I did enjoy the suspense and the build-up though, but I needed more.
Yesterday @LocalTXLibrarian and I processed 88 new books to add to our collection at our library. My favorite part of doing that is I get to check out new books before anyone else gets them, so these 3 came home with me for the weekend. 😀 not like I needed more books on my current TBR, but I couldn't resist. 💚
Book 22📚 3.3⭐️
A quick and entertaining read. But I was hoping for a bit more wildness once the crew took off but it‘s mostly a survival story.
Thought maybe it might be a “human hunt” situation😂 it was not.
5 individuals are selected for a new survival TV show - “Civilization”. Spends 6 weeks in the wild and win 100k. But what happens when the cameras go out?!
A survival television show goes tragically wrong. A tense read that I couldn‘t put down. #Jumpstart2023 @Lizpixie @Clwojick
2¾⭐
This did not work for me. When it wasn‘t feeling bogged down by melancholy it was either painfully dull or overly dramatic. But…the biggest disappointment was the ending. It was super frustrating not getting an answer to the most important question; the one driving the whole story. Or...I totally missed what was driving the whole story.
Started this book last night.

I loved this! And just to assert up front because I see a lot of reviews not mentioning it at all: this book is super queer! Also, the ending is great, what are the rest of you talking about?? A character study, an investigation of a survival reality show turned real survival test, an ode to the beauty and harshness of nature, and a fascinating inside scoop into how these kinds of shows work. Immensely readable, a true page-turner!
I got a treat in the mail this afternoon! My copy of Blair Braverman's new book came a day early from Honest Dog Books. It officially publishes tomorrow
A group of 5 strangers agrees to participate in a survival TV game. They each have their reasons - money, fame, recognition, just to prove they can. But the game is not as it seems. Danger lurks when the TV crew stops coming. I like this wilderness adventure story. Braverman developed interesting characters & plausible situations. I do wish the conclusion was more detailed. Some problems were not resolved, but I hope this means a second book
SMALL GAME is a story about survival and community. I love a good survival story and for the most part I enjoyed this novel. I thought there was going to be more to it though. It almost felt like there was a build up to something that never quite happened. The ending felt rushed and non resolute but overall it was a fast paced enjoyable read and I would read more from the author! Thanks netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this novel!
