Can the right kind of boy get away with killing the wrong kind of girl? Fin and Bettys close friendship survived Fins ninth-grade move from their coastal Maine town to Manhattan. Calls, letters, and summer visits continued to bind them together, and in the fall of their senior year, they both applied to NYU, planning to reunite for good as roommates. Then Betty disappears. Her ex-boyfriend Calder admits to drowning her, but his confession is thrown out, and soon the entire town believes he was coerced and Betty has simply run away. Fin knows the truth, and she returns to Williston for one final summer, determined to get justice for her friend, even if it means putting her loved onesand herselfat risk. But Williston is a town full of secrets, where a delicate framework holds everything together, and Fin is not the only one with an agenda. How much is she willing to damage to get her revenge and learn the truth about Bettys disappearance, which is more complicated than she ever imaginedand infinitely more devastating? From the Hardcover edition.

Fin is back in her hometown for the summer, nearly choking with anger over the disappearance and presumed death of her best friend, Betty. Especially since the town seems to have moved on. I felt like there was potential here, but there are too many things wrong with it to live up to that.

sarahbarnes Your review seems consistent with the book‘s title. 😁 2y

The thing that I found most frustrating about this one is that the first half really got me hooked but I had to really power through the second half. The ending felt really anti climatic for me. The reason it‘s getting a so-so instead of a pan is because there were some good elements in the first half. (Side note- I don‘t think it‘s a YA, most of the characters except one are over 18)

Was a pretty good book but slow at some points. It took me longer to read this than I would've like but nevertheless I enjoyed it. Loved the ending. I'd rate this book four stars.

I found this story really good until the end. The ending just seemed to go on and on and on - to the point I was just wanting her to stop talking.

Fans of YA thrillers would probably like this better than I did, but it was not my cup of tea.

Fin lives part time with her mother in New York and part time with her dad in her small hometown. She returns home to find out what happened to her best friend, Betty, who is missing and presumed dead. Betty‘s boyfriend confessed to killing her, but his confession was thrown out and now everyone assumes that Betty simply ran away.

#CurrentlyReading this and now I know why there's a creepy ass bathtub in the woods (and no, they aren't filming a commercial for male sexual enhancement medication), and I'm worried what's coming next. I'm also worried that I find Finley's addiction to nicotine more troubling than all the binge drinking and pill popping she's doing. #edelweiss

4⭐️ | Gritty, dark, realistic, and suspenseful, reading A Good Idea is a good idea! (Oh god someone take this thing away from me). The ending got a little off track for me for just a bit but I enjoyed the complexity of the situation and the characters!

Dark + Disturbing = Couldn't put down. Disregard intense game of Twister in background. Not such a good idea. Rules don't apply on snow days apparently.

geekerydo Nice! I don't actually own any of her pieces, but one day I'll get something. :) I like her wooden stuff, but it's expensive, haha. I do have a lot of vinyl art toys all over the place, though. 8y
Matilda @geekerydo her originals are! I mostly have her blind box Kid Robot series and dunny. I was lucky at the very beginning to get one of her OG and it's my precious. I love when you have your toys in your pics! 8y

Definitely not your average YA Thriller! Set during the 90s in Maine, this is an intriguing read about how far one friend will go when the other is missing. Very well-written, dark and an easy crossover for adults!
