I‘m not sure about the accuracy of this story about Estée Lauder, and I don‘t think it matters. The fictional heroine, Gloria Dowaziac, is interesting enough to make up for any inaccuracies about Lauder. It‘s a good, quick read about the illusions we create to cover our sins, whether perceived or real, and finding our authentic selves. Enjoy!

Loved this story of Estée Lauder as told by her fictional friend, Gloria. Wonderful story of friendship, love, betrayal, and self-discovery.

There was so little to like about this book for me.... I read it for next year's book club and will definitely need to dig deep for something to make the author feel good. The characters were all so unlikable and not in a good way.

23 #62 The story of Estée Lauder told from the perspective of a fictional friend. I really enjoyed this book. Both storylines held my attention. The lead characters, though flawed, were still likable.

I could not put this book down today! Even reading til my kindle died (luckily right as I finished the book). Truly an incredible story about Estée Lauder and the main character her friend Gloria. Between Estée‘s struggles to start her face cream business and Gloria running from her family‘s past these friends go through so much together. Just a wonderful story of friendship & determination. â­�ï¸�â­�ï¸�â­�ï¸�â­�ï¸�â­�ï¸�

Weekend treat - breakfast and a book!

This was a good read for me because I most enjoy historical fiction when characters aren‘t drawn with a naïveté that can sometimes make me avoid the genre for my next 7 or 8 books. The fictional Gloria was interesting but it‘s the IRL Estee Lauder that I found most interesting.

I really enjoyed this one as there was so much character growth and story to go along with it. I also appreciated learning a bit about Estee Lauder. Great historical fiction read #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks

Gloria starts out a spoiled, lost girl who‘s never had to rely on herself until her father goes to prison for a Ponzi scheme. By a chance encounter, she meets Estée Lauder, a young woman who embodies self-reliance and entrepreneurship. Through the ups and downs of their friendship, family drama, WWII, romantic relationships, and more, we see Gloria slowly grow into a self-sufficient woman, and Estée become a juggernaut in the cosmetic world.

It was fun joining both women and spending their days with them and learning about their lives during this era.

It was fun joining both women and spending their days with them and learning about their lives during this era.

Another entertaining, well-researched read by Ms. Rosen.
