The Deepening Stream
The Deepening Stream | Dorothy Canfield
3 posts | 1 to read
1930. American novelist and juvenile writer, Canfield begins The Deepening Stream: When people talked about things they could remember Matey always wondered which kind of remembering they meant-the kind that was just a sort of knowing how something in the past had happened or the other kind when suddenly everything seemed to be happening all over again. Why did time fade out some memories so that they didn't seem any more real than a story in a book? And why were others, whether you liked it or not, a living part of you at any moment when they come into your head? These were among the many questions for which Matey never found an answer. Hello Littens, how do you source for the beautiful Persephone classics? Now that BD is gone, I need alternatives. Blackwells has some but limited titles.

I want the tagged book! Now I regret that I left it in my BD wishlist 🙈

ImperfectCJ It looks like you can purchase directly from the publisher: https://persephonebooks.co.uk/collections/persephone-classics 1y
sisilia @ImperfectCJ I checked out their international shipping and I wanted to cry 😭 So expensive 💸 1y
ImperfectCJ @sisilia $14 is what came up for me, which doesn't seem awful for a collector item (although I do live in California, so sometimes my idea of "expensive" is skewed). You might be able to find some in good shape on biblio.com. I didn't look deep enough to see specific editions, but the ones I'm seeing there are about the same total price as the one on the publisher site (including shipping). 1y

sisilia @ImperfectCJ Oh $14 is ok. I have to look at their rates again… fingers crossed 🤞🏻 1y
ImperfectCJ It says at checkout that $14 is "standard international shipping", but I'm not sure if there are geographical limitations to that. Fingers crossed! ? 1y
quirkyreader I order direct. Before I do I check the currency exchange rate. If you live in the States also try betterworldbooks.com. I‘ve actually fond some in interesting places. Once you have that grey cover imprinted on you mind, it makes thing easier. (edited) 1y
Jess_Read_This I also look at Abebooks. I don‘t always get the matching bookmark and don‘t mind used copies. But I‘ve gotten some affordable ones from there. https://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=31517376989&cm_sp=det-_-bsk-_-... not sure if you are US based, but the shipping for this used copy is $6.40 and it‘s in fine condition. The Deepening Stream.
I haven‘t bought many books lately, but I ordered this one for our upcoming trip to Paris ( 😁). I believe there‘s a good part of it set in France. I had no idea it was such a big book and over 600 pages. I hope it travels well !
I loved The Home-Maker so much, so another by this writer was definitely on the cards. #PersephoneClub
