A modern-day homicide detective is working as an undertaker's assistant in Victorian Scotland when a serial poisoner attacks the men of Edinburgh and leaves their widows under suspicion. Edinburgh, 1869: Modern-day homicide detective Mallory Atkinson is adjusting to her new life in Victorian Scotland. Her employers know shes not housemaid Catriona Mitchelleven though Mallory is in Catrionas bodyand Mallory is now officially an undertakers assistant. Dr. Duncan Gray moonlights as a medical examiner, and their latest case hits close to home. Men are dropping dead from a powerful poison, and all signs point to the grieving widows... the latest of which is Grays oldest sister. Poison is said to be a womans weapon, though Mallory has to wonder if its as simple as that. But she must tread carefully. Every move the household makes is being watched, and who knows where the investigation will lead. New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong is known for her exquisite world building, and this latest series is no exception. The Poisoner's Ring brings the intricacies of Victorian Scotland alive as Mallory again searches for a 19th-century killer as well as a way home.

Still trapped in 1869 Edinburgh, Mallory along with Dr. Gray and company investigate three mysterious deaths. The stakes are raised when Gray and Isla‘s older sister, Anis is under suspicion for poisoning her husband. Another satisfying 3+ ⭐️ read from Armstrong. I am enjoying the series and when I have finished one title I promptly download the next.

My stats from last month. I participated in a book club challenge so I read even more than usual. 29 books and the equivalent of 8033 pages. Two were graphic novels and two were written in verse. My favorite of the month was The Poisoner's Ring by Kelley Armstrong. I can't wait for the next book to release.

LiseWorks I just finished the Poisoners Ring as well. It was good. 8mo

If you like time travel in the Victorian Era, then this is a great series. Book 2, where Melanie, who finds herself in a young maids body and is actually a cop helps the family solve a murder. By the way, the Victorian Era had Emo Hair styles, thus the bingo spot for #ISpyBingoMarch. #SeriesLove24 #ReadAway24 #AwesomeAprilReadathon @Clwojick @TheSpineView @TheAromaofBooks @Andrew65 @DieAReader @GHABI4ROSES

Book 2 of this series finds several local deaths by poisoning and suspicious they may be connected. Mallory uses her current day knowledge alongside the tools present in Edinburgh past to try to solve it. I‘m really enjoying this series so far and look forward to the next book!

This is the 2nd book in a series about a female detective who is transported back in time to 1869 Scotland. Catapulted into the body of a 19 year old housemaid to a medical examiner, she ends up being his part time assistant. This is a wonderful combination of my two favorite genres, historical fiction & mystery, with a whisper of romance. I found it to be an easy & entertaining read. I do recommend you read “A Rip Through Time“ first though. 4/5

THE POISONER'S RING

I read A RIP THROUGH TIME which is the first in this series and enjoyed it very much.
This one continues with Mallory still stuck in Catriona's body back in 1869. She still lives with Dr Gray and his sister Isla.

I knew where this mystery was going without knowing where it was going the whole time. It's the genius of Kelley Armstrong. Nothing is a surprise, and yet it all surprises. Love it. #25-2023

This second book book in Armstrong‘s A RIP THROUGH TIME series picks up not long after the first. Mallory is still stuck in 19th century Edinburgh in the body of a maid. When poisoned husbands start turning up around town, Mallory & Dr. Gray delve into a fresh investigation that soon takes a turn closer to home. Not quite as humorous as the first, this still makes for a fast & fun read with some real surprises to the storyline! Can‘t wait for #3!

Second in series, Mallory, a modern-day Edinburgh homicide detective who found herself transported back to Victorian Edinburgh (in a housemaid‘s body) following a brutal attack, is once again assisting her employer Duncan (a doctor/medical examiner) and a police detective when a string of men (seemingly unrelated) die by poisoning. Could it be the work of a Poisoner‘s Ring consisting of their wives? I would call this book average (as its 🔻

robinb predecessor was) with echoes of the excellent Kendra Donovan series. My biggest complaint was that the plot line was tedious and confusing at times…a bit too convoluted with motives and suspects going off on tangents. I felt there were too many twists and false paths which led to some sighs from me and a “get to it already”. Still overall not a bad read. Would definitely recommend reading the prior one first. 3.5/5⭐️ 2y
