Disturbing the Dead | Kelley Armstrong

The latest in a unique series with one foot in the 1860s and the other in the present day. The Rip Through Time crime novels are a genre-blending, atmospheric romp.

Mallory is making a place for herself in 1869 Edinburgh. She is the assistant to Dr. Gray and aids him and McCreadie in their investigations. The friends are invited to a mummy unwrapping, but the unwrapping unveils murder and ruins Mallory‘s borrowed dress. There is a mystery to solve and Mallory is given an unexpected opportunity. Interesting historical notes in this entry. A 3+⭐️ pick. I guess I now have to wait for the 4th installment.

“Latest in a unique series with one foot in the 1860s…
Victorian Scotland is becoming less strange to modern-day homicide detective Mallory Atkinson. Though inhabiting someone else's body will always be unsettling…Mallory likes her job as assistant to undertaker/medical examiner Dr. Duncan Gray.”

The third book so far in the Rip Through Time series finds a mummy that isn‘t, launching the hunt for a murderer. This is my favorite of the series so far, in part for a particular choice by the author that I really liked but won‘t spoil. I look forward to reading more of these.

This is the 3rd book in a wonderful series that has time travel, mysteries, humor and a hint of romance. I recommend starting with the first “A Rip Through Time“. This new one has Mallory dealing with Egyptian artifacts, and the serialization of her & Duncan's adventures by an unknown writer. Also, Mallory is forced to make a life changing choice. Thanks to Edelweiss+ for the digital ARC. I really enjoyed it and look forward to more. 4/5 stars!

I love this series and I hope I'm not misguided thinking it might be more than a trilogy. We do have some resolution to the larger story arc but it still works, and I'd love to see some more mysteries solved by this crime solving team. #31-2024

Armstrong‘s one of my favorite authors & the latest installment in the #ARipInTimeSeries doesn‘t disappoint! It opens with an invitation to a mummy unwrapping—& while the modern woman inside Mallory recognizes how problematic this macabre party is, she‘s no longer in 2019 & it‘s not frowned upon in her new life in the body of a Scottish housemaid in 1869. Of course, it‘s also the perfect backdrop for another murder to investigate! A fun series!

CoffeeK8 I love this author so much, but I feel like I have to pause every couple books 6mo
TorieStorieS @CoffeeK8 I do sometimes like to wait to binge her series novels a few at a time! But this series is too much fun to wait on! 6mo

This third installment in a time travel series (from modern day to 1890s) finds our heroine (a modern-day homicide detective in the body of a Victorian Scotland housemaid), settling into her new position as assistant to an undertaker/medical examiner. After attending the unwrapping of an ancient mummy, in which something goes horribly wrong, they become involved in unraveling the hows/whys. There‘s also a surprise twist towards the end that 🔻

robinb tests Mallory‘s resolve about how she‘s envisioned her future.
I love seeing the evolution of Mallory as she navigates her new life and how those around her perceive/accept her. Also there‘s an abundance of humor which is always a plus.
Really enjoying Armstrong‘s books. 4.5/5⭐️
