I love a big, sprawling character story, and I love a crime novel. Rarely do these two loves meet effectively, but occassionally they do, and Whitaker has nailed it here. A bleak, gritty story about a crime and the ripples it leaves in the lives of its two central characters. Whitaker somehow manages to make a story that sprawls over 600 pages, and across decades feel pacy. An immersive, compelling read.

I got 25% in and realised I just didn't believe in the characters. Normally a book which is character focused is my jam but this is written in quite a flowery style where the character reactions are heightened in a way that read melodrama to me.

I feel like this is on a bit of hype train at the moment, and while I'm sure there is an audience for it, maybe approach with caution if you do prefer an economical style.

Really great read. I loved the characters, and a really strong story.

It's very rare I get a Kindle book that's not on 99p offer. No regrets on spending full price on this one.

Oh this book. There is everything in it- I don‘t want to say much more because there are so many layers and twists that I don‘t want to spoil anything.
The characters are wonderful and will have your heart aching. A great read.

Oryx Also it's out on Kindle but not hardback? Is this a new thing to release Kindle first? 2mo

TrishB @Oryx I thought that! Half way through I had no clue how the author was going to wrap anything up. I was trying several plot lines in my head. It was none of them and I loved that it wasn‘t. 2mo

Chris Whitaker writes so beautifully and poignantly. I started this yesterday and cannot put it down. I‘m only a third through it but Saint Patch Grace ❤️❤️❤️My heart is breaking. This may be one of the most perfect books I‘ve ever read. I can‘t wait to see how it all turns out and yet I don‘t want it to end. Final review when I‘ve finished it but I had to share.

TrishB I‘m reading it too. My heart is 💔 2mo
