Karen Browns most hypnotic novel to date--gothic-inflected psychological suspense that unmasks the secret desires of a young woman with a mystical gift On the family homestead by the sea where she grew up, Martha Mary saw ghosts. As a young woman, she hopes to distance herself from those spirits by escaping to an inland college town. There, she is absorbed by a budding romance, relieved by separation from an unstable sister, and disinterested in the flyers seeking information about a young woman whos disappeareduntil one Indian summer afternoon when the missing woman appears beneath Marthas apartment window, wearing a down coat, her hair coated with ice.

Pickpick

I was drawn to this book by, as I am with a lot of books that I purchase, by the cover. It was easy to follow and held my interest. Not disappointed at all!

Not at all what I expected from the description. For anyone who liked All The Missing Girls or The Handmaids Tale. Has suspense, nonstop evolving stories, and a tad bit of supernatural. The supernatural is part of the darkness and I would not describe this as a fantasy in anyway. It's hard to describe, but highly recommended!

First, let's talk about the cover. Gorgeous! Next, let's talk about the plot. Seems like a really cool story. It starts out pretty strong and sucks me into the story... then the story starts to drag on and on and sometimes bores me. I stick with it because there's some mystery I haven't totally figured out yet. It is still monotonous. But somewhere around 40 pages towards the end, it starts to pick up. Too bad it took way too long to get there.

🌟🌟🌟I have a love-hate relationship with this book. Half the time I was unsure exactly what was going on. I think I expected more to happen. It was the peculiarities in this tale which kept me reading. Full review here

This had so much promise, but it just stalls about 100 pages in. I feel like nothing has happened in the last 40 pages I've read and I don't have the patience for that.

This book has a really great Audrey Niffenegger vibe to it, and I'm not sure I've ever said that about a book before.

Suzze I like that cover! 7y

This beauty hit my doorstep last week and I'm both intrigued and slightly apprehensive about it (because it's described as modern Gothic ghost tale filled with psychological thrills) and I am a super wimp when it comes to thrills but the cover is so pretty 😍

Sounds like a fun ghost story, now that see if I can find the guts to read it 😂😭🙈

What is one of your favorite thriller books or movies?
