DELUXE EDITION--a gorgeous hardcover edition featuring hot pink sprayed edges! From the New York Times bestselling author of The Atlas Six, Girl Dinner is a darkly fun novel about power, lust, and eating your fill, as wealthy moms and sorority girls practice a sinister new wellness trend . . .Good girls deserve a treat. Every member of The House, the most exclusive sorority on campus, and all its alumni, are beautiful, high-achieving, and universally respected. After a freshman year she would rather forget, sophomore Nina Kaur knows being one of the chosen few accepted into The House is the first step in her path to the brightest possible future. Once she's taken into their fold, the House will surely ease her fears of failure and protect her from those who see a young woman on her own as easy prey. Meanwhile, adjunct professor Dr. Sloane Hartley is struggling to return to work after accepting a demotion to support her partner's new position at the cutthroat University. After 18 months at home with her newborn daughter, Sloane's clothes don't fit right, her girl-dad husband isn't as present as he thinks he is, and even the few hours a day she's apart from her child fill her psyche with paralyzing ennui. When invited to be The House's academic liaison, Sloane enviously drinks in the way the alumnae seem to have it all, achieving a level of collective perfection that Sloane so desperately craves. As Nina and Sloane each get drawn deeper into the arcane rituals of the sisterhood, they learn that living well comes with bloody costs. And when they are finally invited to the table, they will have to decide just how much they can stomach in the name of solidarity and power.

This was so much darker and in a good way than I was anticipating from the cover,it felt like a slow burn at the start for me,once I realised just how dark it was going,it definitely peaked my interest and kept me hooked until the end.I enjoyed the sorority setting.Darkly disturbing subject matter of cannibalism - without being too gory and slasher fest- it had just the right mix of toxic and disturbing characters to be an enjoyable read.⭐⭐⭐

There aren't enough characters allotted for me to fully explain my thoughts on this book. At times, there was so much back and forth social commentary, I couldn't keep my own beliefs in check. Which, is the point of this satirical tale. I was fascinated by the psychological aspects uncovered in the book. But the ending...that ending.

I really liked the commentary on the struggles of motherhood in this book. It felt honest and so relatable. I think I would have made this a “pick” if the cannibalism angle wasn‘t so publicly promoted. It actually is more like a twist in the story that happens the last quarter of the book, but you‘re waiting for it to appear. Because of that, the book wasn‘t what I expected. It‘s less a thriller & more a commentary on feminism.

Reggie I feel like cannibalism and feminism is the trend nobody had on their bingo card this year, but there‘s like 10 women and cannibalism books out this past year. 1w
Kaylamburson Oh wow, I didn‘t realize there were others. Have you read any that you would recommend? @Reggie 1w

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The social commentary in “Girl Dinner” is so freaking sharp - I paused multiple times to write down quotable passages. It‘s the kind of book that explores questions without answers: what is power, what is feminism, what is a good woman? Can there be real power in the subversion of power? Are women playing a rigged game where they lose regardless of what they do? Lots to chew on… stay hungry. 🎧

This one was somewhere between a so so and a pick for me. I know why the ending is ambiguous but I want answers dammit 😂 Would have liked more details about the rules of the sorority and the actual cannibalism. But I get that it‘s supposed to be a satire on feminism and not straight up horror. Etc, etc.

'Girl Dinner' is a wonderful satire about feminism. It is fully of snarky sarcasm that is, at times, hilarious. It also alludes to the fact that sometimes the main threat to feminism are women themselves. I loved this audiobook version. 5 stars.

I am stunned by the ending. I want to like it? I feel like it makes a particular point.. but the rest of it was so good. the “sisterhood”, Sloan‘s laments on “mom guilt” were so spot on it was nearly unbearable

“What kind of person would you be if you didn‘t choose your daughter over everything?” “..A man”

A sorority takes part in arcane rituals, an adjunct sociology professor researches their successful alumni and comes to a horrific conclusion

5feet.of.fury And I will add that even though that quote rang true #notallmen, my husband is the stay at home parent & I joked when I went back to work that “I loved being a dad” but then my own brain makes me think im a terrible person if I‘m doing something other than parenting or working. It‘s exhausting. Anyway- 2mo
