A leisurely, quiet story that is more about storytelling (and the art of winemaking) than "highfalutin" conflicts with twists and turns.
Sure, there were no big surprises either, but I liked this kind of predictability. It suits the author.
I admit I wasn‘t so much into that part of Spanish history but the main story and the action of reading both leave me satisfied. Just the kind of reading experience I obviously am needing at the moment.
„Until he came to France, he had never counted the buds on a vine; but now, when his plants came to life, he looked at them closely and saw that most of them had about 60 buds. except for the very old ones, which which were about 40. Léon Mendès had reduced his his vines to between 15 and 20 buds, and Josep now began to also reduce his oldest vines to this number of buds.” (p. 325)
⬆️⬆️⬆️ Didn‘t know that. Interesting.
Can you imagine❓The book is still shrink-wrapped. And no, I didn't buy it myself, even though it's been living with me in an unread „state“ for years (2, 3 🤔).
I think I took it from my in-laws when they, again, were sorting out books because most books by Noah Gordon I read were nice entertainment that really sucked me in.
This one shall be about the art of viticulture. That's why you can see my open(ed) bottle of wine in the background, also.
It seemed appropriate to include the Spanish cava that we‘ll have with Christmas dinner, since this delightful book tells the story of a young 19 century Spanish man who becomes a winemaker. It‘s been quite a while since I‘ve read this author, and this reminded me of why I like his books. An interesting, yet relatively straightforward story, good characterization, and a dose of history. 4⭐️ Thanks, @Crazeedi
I‘m supposed to lead a tour at the botanical garden where I volunteer, but it‘s a miserable, rainy day. Waiting to see if anyone comes. In the meantime, my current read and my Kindle are waiting with me 😄
I just haven‘t been able to stick with my current read, even though I like it. It‘s just that this has been calling to me from the bookshelf. I really feel like I need a glass of wine to go with it, but it‘s a bit too early 😂
#gratefulreads #bookandbeverage I admit it‘s cheating, since it‘s only water in my favorite wine glass. It‘s too early in the day to imbibe, but I‘m going to have to have a glass of wine while reading this! 😄
#bookmail is the best mail, especially when it‘s unexpected! Thank you, thank you @Crazeedi for this. It‘s on my TBR, and I‘m really looking forward to reading it. And I was just thinking yesterday that I owe you a long letter 😊
Great great book. I totally enjoyed! It's the story of Josep who acquires his family's land and goes from growing grapes used only to make vinegar to a bodega with premium vino! 5 ⭐
I am on holiday for the next week, so I went shopping this morning... It was really peacefully, after I managed to park my car...
Look what I found today. There is also a 'white wine edition'. 😊😘
Went shopping some hours ago and saw this wine. 🤣 If I would drink, this would be the wine I choose. 😍🤣💕
Jumping ahead on #readinthenewyear because I‘m not going to stay awake much longer and we aren‘t having any champagne this evening. However, my son opened a wonderful Bordeaux with dinner, and I think that counts for #booksandbubbles. Happy New Year, everyone! 🎉
1. Wine - Red, white and book 2. I am guilty of buying books based on covers all the time. 3. Beach all day everyday 4. Fantasy I get enough reality in life 😊 5. Honestly these fictional men are the reason why women waste so much time on men who are mean to them in real life hoping they turn out like these two. Give me Colonel Brandon and Edward from Sense and Sensibility 🙂#bookishwouldyourather
