When a teenage girl is terrorized by a madman out for blood, could it have something to do with what happened to her mother so long ago at the abandoned house out on the lake?

So, I finished reading The Lake and everyone said I would enjoy it by the end. I guess I read too many thrillers. I already knew who wasnt dead, who was the bad guy and who was really who before I got there. I didnt enjoy it, which is sad because I generally enjoy Laymon's work

ljuliel I hope your next book is better. Sometimes you need to go with your gut. If you‘re really not liking a book, it‘s ok to toss it and start a new one. 📖📚📖📚📖 5y
jessinikkip Thabus, @ljuliel I'll probably bail out on any of his books that dont make me feel like I expect. I trusted this to improve since I generally like his books 5y
ljuliel I admire people that can stick it out and keep on reading , even if they don‘t like a book. My husband does that. If he starts one, he rarely EVER gives up on it. He ends up liking what he reads , but he only recently really got interested in reading as a hobby . I‘m just the opposite. If a book doesn‘t interest me from almost the beginning , I toss it and keep moving. Too many other books to try. 😊 5y
jessinikkip I'm kind of in the middle. Usually I give a book up to 50 or 100 pages depending how long the whole book is. But if someone recommends it, I'm more likely to stick it out 5y

RainyDayReading I hope it gets amazing for you! Nothing worse than struggling through a book you've been told is worth it only for it to be a flop. 5y

Okay, so Ive managed to mostly finish shopping, clean the dogs collar which hadnt been done in forever, and halfway clean the living room. Now maybe tomorrow I can get back into this book. Its been hard to keep going.

Audiobook thanks to Hoopla. You might not want to read this as I‘d consider it R-rated horror. It wasn‘t what I thought it would be. Still looking for some good horror. The women represented in this book are unbelievable the author waffles them between sex starved victims & badass heroes. It‘s difficult to rate this because there‘s a few actually good scary moments here. I don‘t regret reading it but it‘s not my proudest moment. ⭐️⭐️1/2

This was one was between a so-so and a pan. The writing and plot were a little haphazard. The story wasn't anywhere near as scary as I hoped. But it was an intriguing and quick enough read to keep me going and trying to guess the mystery. There were a couple of good, unexpected twists.

Twigger warning for sexual violence towards the end. And also just graphic sex in general. This asexual did a good bit of skimming through a few sections.

This is our lake here in Middle Earth 😊. If the flurries would eventually stop, I think the trees would be starting to pop with new greenery. That's @BookBabe with a friend down there. With all the wind, the waves they were a-lappin'.

CocoReads Beautiful view! 8y
AmyG Gorgeous. 8y
ApoptyGina69 We had such a strong wind and rainstorm the last few days, that all the green new-spring oak leaves have blown down onto the deck. Glad Mother Nature didn't take my lilac blooms too. Beautiful blue water! 🌿🍃🦋 8y

I was curious as to what I was reading this time last year (pre-Litsy) and I remember each one. The Lake was bad. Really bad. I still remember how mad it made me. I went around telling people not to read it. I was having major feelings. Everything else around this time was great. Especially Cinder ❤

LazyLibrary That sounds fun! I'm going to look at my Goodreads list too! 💫 8y
Mommamanzi Cinder is hands down one of my fav books! 8y
Josie @LazyLibrary it is fun! I do it every couple of months just to see what I was up to! 8y

Josie @Mommamanzi mine too! That whole series was so good. It doesn't feel like it's been a whole year! 8y
quirkyreader Richard Laymon's writing can do that. He wrote some good stories but he also wrote some stinkers. 8y
annkuch13 Yes! Some of Richard Laymon's stuff makes me so mad! @quirkyreader do you have any suggestions of which of his books aren't rage inducing? 8y
Josie @quirkyreader this was definitely a stinker! I'm with @annkuch13, if you have any recommendations, send them our way! 8y
quirkyreader @annkuch13 @Josie A Night In Lonesome October was good. And from what I remember Stake was ok. And as I re-read his works I'll mention which ones are stinkers and which ones were good. 8y
annkuch13 @quirkyreader Awesome! Thanks!! 8y
Josie @quirkyreader that'd be great!!! Thanks! 8y
