The Rest of the Story | Sarah Dessen

Curious about everyone‘s thoughts on Sarah Dessen leading a social media mob against a college grad student who voiced an opinion on her books. Personally?? I thought it was awful. Turned my stomach to watch her and other ya authors attack someone with such foul language and hatred. I won‘t be reading her for a while, that‘s for sure.

LazyLibrary I‘m not much for getting personal on listy, Bc this is my happy book place, but with social media taking over life, and people are able to hide behind screens, I think we‘ve forgotten basic kindergarten manners. Not everyone will like what you like, respect other people‘s opinions, BE NICE 2w
Laughterhp This is the first I‘ve heard of it..I thought Sarah Dessen was a nice person from what I‘ve seen, but who knows. That‘s too bad she felt the need to attack someone for not liking her book. 2w
LazyLibrary @Laughterhp It wasn‘t that the student criticized Dessens work. She just felt it shouldn‘t be included in the common read program at her university. Plus, the student‘s quotes were from an article that was published in 2017. Poor girl probably was blindsided by the onslaught. But a lot of well known...(in my case, loved) ya authors took part in some serious online bullying. Of course all deleted now! I did see Dessen apologized (kinda) tho 2w

Anyone participating in NaNoWriMo this year?? If so, how‘s it going?? The last time I tried, a family emergency unfortunately got in the way. But lightly typing away this year without a full commitment. #nanowrimo #iwritesoicanreadit

LazyLibrary @JazzFeathers Same with work! I don‘t have a set schedule, this week is crazy, but I have the following week off. So I might take advantage then. I just recently finished the book I started for Nano 2017 that got interrupted, and while I should re-write that one, I wanted to use Nano to get going on a humorous fairytale retelling that‘s been outlined with a few chapters already written! Circe | Madeline Miller

I need to talk about Circe. It‘s beautifully written, without a doubt. But at 60% I‘m struggling a bit. I like Greek Mythology & I‘m familiar with the stories, but I quickly realized that I had to be in the mood for the topic to even pick Circe up. To quit such a well-written book seems totally wrong, but I‘m a little bored.#circe #botm

MeganAnn I felt the same way. It‘s beautifully written, but I never felt a strong urge to keep reading or to pick it up again once I put it down. It took forever to finish it and the ending didn‘t change my opinion of the book in any way. If you aren‘t feeling it, move on... or put it aside and come back at a later date when your mood fits. If you know a bit about the mythology, I feel like you could pick it up again months later and not be lost.🤷‍♀️ 1mo
mrsthilkey That stinks, sounds like it just wasn't the right time. That happens to me occasionally, and I will save it for a later time. 1mo
LazyLibrary @MeganAnn glad to hear it‘s not just me. I think I am going to quit for now! 1mo

Only occupied by the elite, & any unsuspecting apartment sitters who are unfortunate enough to get the job. Jules is grieving, heartbroken & broke. With nowhere to go, she takes a job that seems too good to be true, & soon she‘ll discover that she‘s the Bartholomew‘s favorite kind of tenant. 🔪 #botm

A Nearly Normal Family | Mattias Edvardsson

Pickpick

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An engaging courtroom thriller told from 3 pov‘s, the father, a pastor, the daughter, the murder suspect, & the mother, a defense attorney. The story had enough mystery to keep the reader turning pages, but I enjoyed the humanity in each section. The struggles of a pastor to do what‘s necessary for his family, the hardships of being a teen & finding your purpose, a working mother‘s guilt. Not overly exciting, but still a good read #botm

⭐️⭐️⭐️ So this book was slightly predictable with unlikable and unreliable characters. With that said, it was a quick and fun read. Amber is atrocious, and my dislike for her is what made this book a page turner. I don‘t want to give spoilers, but there is sensitive material towards the second half of the book that was def stomach turning. More psychological than thrilling! #thelastmrsparrish 💫

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Sometimes I Lie is a page turner. There is an unsettling feeling about our unreliable narrator that ebbs and flows throughout the story. Quick read & intriguing, I flew through it. This book was pretty graphic at times & disturbing (NOT as disturbing as I Know Who You Are. I‘m still asking myself what the heck?) I‘ll def be following Feeney‘s work! I know now to expect her stories to “go there” 😂 if that makes sense #sometimesilie 💫

Trying SO hard to get over the fact that the author doesn‘t use quotation marks 😣 It makes it nearly impossible for me to get into the story and it drives me CRAZY!!!!! I‘m trying not to be irrationally sad about it, and I‘m waiting for a new copy of When the Sky Fell On Splendor Bc my copy came with the pages all hot glued together 😐 book of the month fail so far!!! #normalpeople #botm

Kimberlone A lot of European and Latin American writers write dialogue like this. It can be a difficult adjustment at first but I think it‘s just a matter of reading more books that are written with this convention. I remember reading Angela‘s Ashes when I was about 12-13 and I was very confused because that was first time I‘d seen an author write like that! 8mo
LazyLibrary @kimberlone I‘m determined to stick with it. It‘s always a struggle for me at first. I‘ve read books without them, but def prefer them!!!! I couldn‘t get into Severance a couple of botm‘s ago Bc of it, so maybe after this it will be a good time to try again while I‘m “quotation-free” 8mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #BOTM picks are on point. While Theo, our psychotherapist, comes off as slightly pathetic, and Alicia, our patient, is primarily silent, the need to know why she shot her husband kept me turning the pages. Each character we meet that came in contact with Alicia is shrouded in suspicion, none are likable. It‘s a quick read with a major twist!
