I‘ve been dying to read some African lit. lately so I picked this one up at my local library. It took me a while, but I have to say, I loved it. This such a complex novel about duty, motherhood and marriage. Above all, it‘s about poverty and the many ways in which women silently suffer more and the burdens rural life places on women. Fulfillment isn‘t always in motherhood. If you‘re looking for a complex, sad story set in Nigeria, this is it.

saresmoore Yes, please! 6y
Notafraidofwords @saresmoore it‘s so good !!! It‘s look at motherhood is excellent. 6y
Reviewsbylola I love the tandem babywearing. ♥️ I did a lot of it but always with one on front and one on back. Both on back looks very challenging! 6y
Notafraidofwords @Reviewsbylola it looks challenging. I love this cover because it shows how hard motherhood is. Some things are insurmountable as a parent. 6y
BarbaraBB Great review and what a beautiful cover. 6y

Getting started on my next selection for my African lit class on this cold night ❄️

Abby-J Your required reading looks much more interesting than mine for this term. My textbooks are boring me to tears. 6y
wellreadredhead My masters program attempts to eliminate textbooks and read novels since I‘m concentrating in literature. The only time I‘ve had a textbook was when it was an anthology and I‘m super grateful for it! @Abby-J 6y
Tamra I think I‘d love that course! Does it include contemporary African lit? 6y

I read this for a paper in college and I really enjoyed it, even though it was not a happy book. It is definitely eye-opening and thought-provoking. While I am not a mother (to humans) I could still identify with a lot of the emotion. Very good!
