☀️Didn‘t read anything spectacular because I only read 6 books but Exiles by Jane Harper was a good sequel. Also These Ghosts Are Family
☀️I will say that in general, I enjoyed the 6 books read in June, nothing was “worst”.

This imagined turn in South African history is a truly clever way to explore the nature of power in a colonised nation. Gordimer‘s style is a bit dense, and as such this novel demands quite a lot of clear headspace to absorb. I don‘t think I had enough mental space to truly appreciate the nuances of everything Gordimer was doing here. It‘s an interesting novel that for me, could have been executed more accessibly.

I was expecting a lot more from this novel. For the amount of good press this novel got, I was just kind of bored with it and I found Maureen to be a little bit annoying.

I was expecting much more from this novel. Promising to be an exploration of the relationships between blacks and whites during wartimes in South Africa, this novel‘s style detracted from the deeper meanings lurking in the book. I understand what Gordimer was going for, but her writing style just didn‘t work for me. Subject and topic was great though.

I didn't manage to crack 3 of the ARCs on my #julytbr but what're you gonna do, right? Best reads of the month were Hunger & The Skeptical Vegan.

I am moving to a new town, so I went to the local HPB bookstore to check it out. As I walked in I said, I don't need any books right now I just want to see what it is like. Well, it's a good one...(more books to move).

I did not like the way in which this book was written. Everytime I think that I've finally gotten what is happening, a sentence comes in that just confuses me again. The idea and plot of the novel is good but the style was just not to my liking. Maybe if I were to have read it for my own enjoyment rather than school, I might have liked it more.

This was my first experience with Nadine Gordimer and I really enjoyed it. I did a combo of audio and ebook. Don't do the audio -it was rather dry and dull. The book explores racial tensions and interdependencies between blacks and whites in South Africa. A complex and interesting book.
