Ugh, I am so upset right now! You may call me dramatic, but I walk to my library every time I go, because I‘m .5 miles away and I walk with my dog.

I have brought my 🐶 inside the library 2-3 times so far. Today I‘m told I can‘t bring him in. I‘m in the library for a total of 2-3 mins. I return, go to hold shelf and check out. So annoying!!! I burst into tears cuz I was so upset! 😭
It is 20 degrees F outside.. I‘m not leaving him out there.👇🏻

Laughterhp It just gave me negative feelings towards the library. If there is no food in a library, I should be able to visit for up to 5 mins! I know there are a lot of librarians on here, so I‘m curious your thoughts.... 7y
DrSabrinaMoldenReads Well some people are allergic or phobic about dogs. I have a phobia. 7y
MarriedtoMrT I‘m sorry you had a bad experience! Unfortunately, it is our library policy to only allow service animals. It is an insurance issue, I believe. Even for a quick trip there are a lot of things that could happen with animals. We do also have a drive up window where you would be able to walk up to get a hold and a service where we will walk holds out to customers. (edited) 7y

DrSabrinaMoldenReads I understand how you feel though. I never forgot being asked to leave the library when my baby started crying at the checkout. 7y
MarriedtoMrT That is another consideration. I worked with someone with a severe dog phobia. She would likely have left the desk if you were in the building with a dog. @Joyfulmimi 7y
Laughterhp @Joyfulmimi Wow! How awful!! 7y
Laughterhp @MarriedtoMrT I don‘t think our library has that. I can drop the books off outside, but I usually only go when I have a pick up. However, it‘s a good point. My dog is so cute and loving, that I forget people have phobias. 7y
SandyW It's not just phobias... Some dogs are not well behaved, and some dog owners are not considerate. Barking would be a problem in a library. 7y
xicanti A children's librarian once kicked my dog out of the library because of potentially phobic patrons. The other librarians had all been playing with him, and they were so annoyed with her that they waived my $0.35 late fee. 7y
Samplergal I march in like I‘ve given them the building. No one yet has told me no. Another thing is that you can order a leash with emotional support animal on it without registering for just such times. People are allergic/afraid etc. I get that. you‘re in there for 5 minutes. Deal with it. See a shrink or an allergist. Off my soapbox. 7y
Samplergal @SandyW perhaps. Most people who take their dogs with them to the library and other places are the direct opposite. I have yet to see another dog out of line in those places. 7y
Samplergal @xicanti yay for those librarians. 7y
kamoorephoto That‘s a bit much when it‘s adverse conditions though...if it‘s below freezing outside?? 7y
Laughterhp @Samplergal That‘s what I did the first few times I brought him. He‘s a perfect dog, doesn‘t make any noise and I‘m there for 5 mins. He has separation anxiety, so when I leave him he howls. I think it was bad timing because the security guard was on his way out. Also my dog is hypoallergenic. 7y
Samplergal @Laughterhp get the leash. 13$ and they can‘t even. 7y
Laughterhp @Samplergal I may just do that. Thanks! 😊 7y

mcipher So cute!!! I️ love him!! Are you keeping him?!? 7y
LauraBeth Those spots! 7y
Zelma @mcipher yup. I've been trying find him a new home for a few months include no-kill shelters, but with no luck. He is chipped but the family that adopted him a year ago don't want him; he got passed around and then I think abandoned on our road. (We're in the contra and people dump animals out where often.) the cats are not thrilled but it will all work out. I finally admitted that he's here to stay. 😂 7y
MinDea Cute! 7y

mcipher Well, that‘s great news! Congrats on him!! 7y
Moray_Reads How could you resist that face? 7y
Zelma @LeahBergen definitely part Jack Russell. We also think he's got some Dalmatian due to the spots and territorial nature. And I think some Beagle. He's a complete mutt. 7y
Zelma @mcipher thanks! 7y
Redwritinghood He‘s adorable! 7y
Suet624 Oh my gosh. He‘s adorable. 7y
