Ahhh, this is pretty perfect. It rounds off the whole story beautifully.
I guess the only thing to dislike is that of course Tianchi turns out not to be disabled after all: his muteness is caused by a poison, which can be cured, at which point he learns to speak. There's also a scene where Li Yu seems to treat being disabled like a bad thing, telling the kids that Tianchi isn't “different“, he's just sick. It's... hm. But given the context...

I liked it, and in general this whole Frankenstein resurgence, but for such a short book it was slow to start, I liked Meka & overall the plot and moral of the story was solid

Pronto library book (tagged):I have to read it in a week; cannot renew. So obviously that book comes first this week. A big help: I thought I was behind on Gilot‘s book, but I was actually ahead so that section is finished for next Sunday. 😃📚

My National Book Awards #10beforetheend is coming along nicely now, after a very slow start.
I‘ve only just started Sad Tiger and Autobiography and about a third of the way through The Remembered Soldier, which is the chunkster on the list.
I‘m still concerned that I‘m going to get sidetracked by the ToB longlist when that comes out…. 😝

I do love a bit of Japanese whimsy. Not so much a novel as a collection of short stories about people who need help finding a clinic open visible to people who need it, where the treatment is cats prescribed as emotional support animals ☺️ 🐈⬛. As a slave to two cats, I know how much snuggles from a cat can help!

This was an enthralling listen of Katherine‘s realisation that she was autistic and of receiving a formal diagnosis later on in life. She writes so precisely about her own experience of being autistic, motherhood, walking the South West Coast path, relationships with friends, her husband etc. It really drew me in. #10beforetheend
