pickLow pick. It‘s billed as a sequel to The Island of the Blue Dolphins, but it‘s not exactly that. I‘d say it‘s adjacent. I found the ending a little sad.

pickThat ending…. 💔 This book is so sad. And somehow hopeful. Corny struggles to come to terms with life in prison after caused a tragedy that tore his family apart. He will spend three years of his life there and is determined to come out a better man. This is the story of a complex man, who has grown on me while I couldn‘t stop reading. Recommended!

pickFirst finish of #10BeforeTheEnd for me is this, the second in the Olga Pushkin Mysteries series. I like Olga as a character, and enjoyed this gentlest unfolding murder mystery, but, oh, the cliffhanger ending 😱

The #BookSpin fates are whispering “read your challenge books.” My BookSpin will fulfill 1953 for the #192025 challenge AND # 15 (BIPOC author I‘ve meant to read) for my #50x50 birthday challenge (which I‘ve neglected in favor of finishing 192025 😆) My #DoubleSpin is any #50x50 book. I‘m debating between the three on the right: Last Unicorn (classic children‘s fantasy), Mabinogion (Arthurian), and Hungering Dark (published before I turned 10).
pickA genre-defying book…. Part whaling story / maritime adventure, part body horror, part dark fantasy, part polemic on the dangers of capitalism.
I certainly can‘t say I enjoyed it but I appreciated it and was compelled to keep reading, despite the very graphic depictions of whale slaughter.
There‘s a lot to process here and I‘ll be thinking about it for some time.
