Presumed Innocent | Scott Turow

As a former prosecutor and lover of mystery and suspense, I cannot believe I waited so long to read this classic thriller. It was intense and intricate and a great audiobook. Turow writes court scenes very well and the book had great pacing. Sabich, a prosecutor in chicago da office, begins an investigation into a murdered colleague and all kinds of twists and turns follow. #40thbdaychallenge #1987. Will read the rest of this series.

Leftcoastzen This book was an immediate bestseller, but it was published in Aug. 1987 . 5y
Blaire @Leftcoastzen it does look like that was the release date...when I googled 1986 books it came up (trying to read one per year). It‘s listed as a 12/31/86 original publication date. Not sure if that was an ARC. Will prob still count it for my bday challenge since there‘s only 4 days left in the year. 5y

Leftcoastzen Probably was an ARC , I was working in bookstores back then ,don‘t want you to think I‘m a member of the release date police. 😂It was so popular , and I haven‘t read it yet! Overdue! 5y
Blaire @Leftcoastzen that makes total sense as to why you‘d remember it. Thanks for the explanation. ☺️. It was great - a total page turner. Made me take longer walks because I didn‘t want to turn off the audio. 5y
Blaire @Cathythoughts it was. I kept doing chores and walking for an excuse to listen. 5y

The Pelican Brief | John Grisham

Grisham is always good for a page-turner. Darby Shaw, a Tulane law student, teams up with a Washington post reporter to get to the bottom of 2 assassinations. Lots of intrigue, spying, and chases. Perfect winter break read. #40thbdaychallenge #1993.

The Runaway Jury | John Grisham

Is this my favorite Grisham? No. Is it the most realistic? No. Was it a fun page-turner? Yes. I had fun reading this story of a high stakes tobacco trial where the defense wants a guaranteed verdict and is willing to go to extraordinary lengths to get it. Lots of good twists and turns, a juror with a secret, and fun dynamics among the jurors. #40thbdaychallenge #1996

Andrew65 This was an enjoyable read. 5y
Blaire @Andrew65 yes, I was looking for a page-turner and this fit the bill. 5y

These essays, originally published in 1983 are still relevant and insightful. favorites include how periods would be seen if men menstruated and not women and would be seen as a sign of strength and virility. Also loved the classic essay about her time undercover as a playboy bunny. Found the one about women becoming more radical as they age to be thought-provoking as well. #40thbdaychallenge #1983

The Bourne Identity | Robert Ludlum

A twisty and fun thriller. I saw the movie when it first came out and only remembered the bare bones of the story. When Bourne is washed up the shore he has forgotten who he is and what his mission was...he returns to Zurich and his quest to find himself begins. #booked2019 #booktomovie #40thbdaychallenge #1980

As in any book of essays I ended up skimming some, but the ones that caught me really drew me in. My particular favorites were on Hawaii, migraines, Malibu, okeefe, and relationships. She has a particular way of capturing human experience and is a keen observer of culture and the way people think. Captures life in California and Hawaii I‘m the 1960s. #1979 #publishedin1979 #40thbdaychallenge

Book 6/150 for 2017. 4.5/5 ⭐️. What a charming book! If a Rebecca Stead novel & an Elizabeth Enright novel had a baby, it would be this excellent later middle-grade story of a young girl growing up & discovering who she is & becoming comfortable with who she is. This is the book for the year 1998 in this year's #birthdaychallenge. #24in48 #24in48readathon #40thBDayChallenge
