Loved it. Laugh out loud moments (or reactions.) I enjoyed it very much and it mentions pie! AND, I just discovered, there‘s a sequel. My kind of comfort read; found families and/or? cantankerous old ladies. #Jan2025 Book9

1. The Battle of the Nutcrackers, obvs 🩰
2. I have not yet read this one about the Shackleton expedition but I do have it, as well as Worley‘s take. I went on a spree collecting mountain climbing accounts & other like, already read a few takes on the 1996 Everest climb, Rainbow Valley, don‘t cha know. I myself cannot understand the high mountain-climbing urge. I don‘t wanna die when tis easier to look at pics of it. 🤷🏼♀️

Current audiobook but showing finished puzzle. 🐧 🧩 🎧 #Recommended by a friend (Nancy the BookFool)
This was a great book to borrow from the library; it was good but not one I‘d need to own to re-read again. I loved Veronica (I don‘t know what it says about me that when I see ‘Curmudgeon but charming old woman‘ in a book summary I instantly think, “I have to read this!!”), she was feisty and fun. My only complaint was that this book dragged for me in the middle. All in all, it‘s a soft pick for me.
The story of Endurance is truly inspiring, highlighting resilience, courage, and the vital role of leadership in survival. However, the writing style didn‘t work for me. The heavy focus on technical details about sailing and weather felt repetitive and slowed the pace, making it hard to stay engaged. While the message is powerful, the execution made it a challenging read.
Another let down for me, though it may be my state of mind. This was highly recommended after I'd read a Sarah Moss book with a similar feel. But this fell short. I got confused with the 1912 dual chapters, then the last few chapters were too much. I guess indicative of the character minds but felt mixed up fir me.
I had to bail after the first couple chapters. Horrific details on dog death & suffering.
I just can‘t. Huskies are *dogs*! They want what all domesticated dogs want: Loving care, good food, comfortable rest & companionship with their humans.
They deserve that. Give them that, not this miserable existence. 💧💧💧
My #ReadOrDonate selection for December. 🐧 What will everyone else be reading?
