Really interesting novel about an American who gets stranded with the Chukchi people in eastern Russia and learns to love their way of life. #archipelagobooks

I actually squealed when I got this early birthday order of books from Archipelago publishing. I had emailed that I wasn‘t able to access one of their sales (seemed like a website glitch) but just ordered the books I wanted anyway. They sent a lovely handwritten note with TWO free books. Love smaller book publishers!! #archipelagobooks

Beautifully written. I loved how the narrative jumped between the characters in such a way that sometimes I was a few words in to a paragraph before I realized it had switched. Ørstavik really evoked the eerie loneliness of the far North where she is from and never dropped the thread of suspense. I give the Mom an "epic fail" in the parenting department. #archipelagobooks #ReadWide

Still pondering this one as I set it on the top of my #ArchipelagoBooks "Have Read" pile. Fantastic. And the stack will continue to grow now that I succumbed to their subscription... #ReadWide #ReadAllLanguages

I can't say enough about #archipelagobooks for helping me break out of reading the white english-speaking cis-male canon. Just succumbed to their subscription to get the next 12 books they publish. Very excited. Next up on my TBR list, Wolf Hunt. My first ever read from the Bulgarian.

cathysaid Nice! I've got a set as well, but I like your covers better. Have you read them all? I'm still midway through book 4. 7y
BarbaraBB @cathysaid I did. The last one is sooooo good! 7y
Booksnchill @cathysaid no I have only read Autumn, his book on Soccer and part of Book 1 but I stumbled on a set going for a good price so bought it and awaiting 6 for completion. 7y
cathysaid @BarbaraBB Ooooh I'll have to move that up on the TBR @Booksnchill Well done! 7y
sisilia 🤤I‘m drooling here... i‘m getting these next year 💪🏻 7y
Booksnchill @sisilia just in time for Vol 6 translation release next fall! 7y
sisilia @Booksnchill I saw Vol 5 when I visited Strand Bookstore. The blurb that they wrote is “Still struggling....” 😅 I‘m looking forward to the complete set; should park myself in Bali for 2 weeks to read in peace 7y
Booksnchill @sisilia I am not sure Bali for 2 weeks qualifies as a Struggle!!!🤣🙃 7y
sisilia @Booksnchill Haha 🤣 7y
jveezer #archipelagobooks has the first five in sale right now, probably in anticipation of Book 6 later this year. Trying to resist the pull of that button as I gifted myself their subscription yesterday. So I'm gonna get Book 6... 7y
Booksnchill @jveezer awesome! 7y

Mehso-so

A novel in translation (Portuguese to English) about an agoraphobic woman who watches the political upheaval in Angola through her apartment window.

It was difficult to stay immersed in the narrative but there were some ideas & quotes I liked quite a bit. More than any of that, though, I liked the format of the book itself. It's a squat lil baby, 5.5 x .8 x 6.5", with a rough, matte cover. If ever I write a book, I want it to look just like this.

monalyisha Thanks @diovival & @BekahB ! That's Sarge. He lives with my parents (they got him while I was in college). He's an old man now & hasn't been doing so hot lately, but he's still the best dog we've (they've) ever had. So lovable & ugly/cute, dumb & sweet & funny & smelly. When he gets excited, he has the wiggliest of all butts. Such a good boy. 🐶 (edited) 7y
ErinGoBragh1011 Ok seriously I am in love with his wrinkles chubby face! 7y
