Bigfoot/Sasquatch isn‘t something I‘ve had much interest in, or a solid belief. I‘ve watched some personal stories about it lately though, and I find it interesting. The author travels to British Columbia to hear these kinds of stories from the locals. He gets indigenous wisdom and many stories; he learns the many names of this mysterious being; he meets other scientists who ask, if we know this creature exists, why the stigma? The book is⬇️

JenniferEgnor beautifully written. Part history, part science, part mystical—it leaves you to find your own path to seeing and defining the Sasquatch. 3d
JenniferEgnor ‘The Valleys of the Noble Beyond‘ are defined by a local as: The Great Bear Rainforest; the land of serendipity, the ultimate landscape of myth, magic, and metaphor. The domain that is the unseen universe. A place where interconnection and deeper meanings lie around every corner… where Sasquatch, coincidences, and one million other possibilities exist. 3d

Interesting and surprising beginning of a Canadian mystery series. I liked how uncomfortable Karl can be in situations. He's not the typical cop. He's vulnerable, crotchety at times, and stubborn. He's also sometimes needy.

The victim was well portrayed and complex with depths and surprises. The mystery, while we knew who dunnit from the beginning, was still intriguing enough to hold my interest easily.

This mystery has been on my ebook shelf for a while. It's set on BC's Sunshine Coast where my sister-in-law lives. The first time we went I thought, this would be the perfect setting for a murder mystery. Turned out I was not the first to have that idea. 😉
A solid mystery, the killer is revealed on page 1. As the story unfolds, you follow RCMP staff sergeant Karl Alberg put it together. Good characters, good setting, good pace. Author was 👇

merelybookish Apparently was dubbed once Canada's ?? "Queen of Crime Fiction." (Pre-Louise Penny ?). Coincidentally, it's just been turned into a tv series: Murder in a Small Town. Anyhoo, always enjoy a mystery at Xmas time. Unfortunately meets no criteria for #ChristmasCrimeChallenge unless 1984 counts as historical. ? @RaeLovesToRead 1mo
LeahBergen You‘ve just reminded me that I want to watch that series! I was talking about it with MY Sunshine Coast sister-in-law this summer. 😆 1mo
merelybookish @LeahBergen Yes, curious to watch it now too! 1mo

“The scents of huckleberries, pine, and cedar imprint on the cubs. While their eyes come to know the mountains, their noses explore miles beyond what they can see.”

This book would be useful for the older grades. This book does a great job with its illustrations that allow children to stay focused and attentive throughout. This book also does a great job at vocabulary. Throughout the book there are blurbs explaining the word, so it would allow for a great vocabulary lesson.

The Grizzly Mother was published in 2019. Won the award for animal behavior society‘s children‘s book award. Also won an award for design and illustration. Highlights the importance of the Gitxsan people of British Columbia. Focuses on how together they share the land and the forest and how the grizzly bear is an important aspect of their landscape. Focuses on how the bear teachers their cubs to live on their own.

Such a great book! A story that follows 5 survivors of Indian residential schools. I was tearing up so much as their individual stories unraveled. Such a dark part of history.
