I reviewed this Southern California-set novel about three sisters (Finola, Zennie and Ali) back in March and enjoyed it. Susan Mallery writes good escape books. 📚🌴🥑🌊🏄🏼‍♀️

Cinfhen Great cover and gorgeous coastal views 😎 5y

This book is on my IRL TBR thanks to a recommendation from Rosina Lippi, one of my favorite authors. #californication #wanderingjune

BarbaraBB Good rec! 5y
Cinfhen Interesting 🤓 5y
Chrissyreadit @Cinfhen if you google California books and go to the goodreads link there are an insane amount of sub categories. My new bookish side interest. But thought you might find that interesting too. 5y
Cinfhen Sub genres are really fascinating 🥰 5y

I'll be honest, I never cared for the song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers or the TV series with David Duchovny.

#WanderingJune #Californication @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB

Trashcanman They ain't the same without Frusciante 5y
BarbaraBB @Trashcanman You are so right. Frusciante added the magic! 5y
BarbaraBB I never watched the series but I did read the tagged book! And I liked the song a lot at the time but I think I‘ve heard it too often (i have myself to blame for that😉!) 5y

Cinfhen Sorry @BarbaraBB and @RamsFan1963 RHCP can do no wrong although I don‘t love seeing/watching them preform live 😬 (edited) 5y
Cinfhen Except Flea is always entertaining 5y
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen I love them performing live even though the quality isn‘t always that good. Flea is amazing indeed, together with John Frusciante they got the best out of Anthony. Missing those days! Sorry @RamsFan1963 for using your post ☺️🌶 5y
RamsFan1963 @BarbaraBB No problem. I don't mean to have anyone think I don't like the RHCP, I do, but Californication has always been my least favorite of their songs. Rather listen to Breaking The Girl, Under The Bridge or Give It Away 5y
BarbaraBB That album is their best, I agree ❤️ 5y

I am finally forced to put down some thoughts on this book, because of a monthly prompt. It starts in California and has a few odd sex scenes - Californication. Too perfect to pass up....👇

LiterRohde I say I am forced, because I think I like this book. But why? I‘ve had months to think and I‘m still not sure. The book mostly made me mad. At one point, I wanted to throw it across the room (I was listening to the audiobook, so cooler heads prevailed when the thoughts of buying a new iPhone entered the picture)....👇 5y
LiterRohde The characters were not all that likable, the story was bleak and, at times, disturbing. Yet, the setting - a near future California devastated by drought - was fully engrossing and compelling, and the prose was beautiful. I still remember when the title was woven into the story. Brilliant....👇 5y
LiterRohde So something about this book, with its flawed characters and captivating setting, rang true for me. I think , in the end, it was that people will be people - good, bad, indifferent - no matter what is going on in the world. It‘s difficult to change. It‘s hard to figure out who you are. It feels impossible to outrun your past. All the forces of control that exist now - parents, jobs, roles, religion, to name a few - will still exist then. 5y

TracyReadsBooks Great review! 5y
LiterRohde @TracyReadsBooks Thanks. I try my best. 5y
Megabooks Great review, even though I felt very different about the book! 😉👏🏻 5y
LiterRohde @Megabooks I commented in that very thread of which you speak. You and @Cinfhen did not have a good time with this book! I knew I liked it at that time (4 months ago) but I couldn‘t put it in words. It‘s taken this long for me to think about and digest. And I still would not have written about it had it not been for the prompt. (edited) 5y
Megabooks @LiterRohde Sometimes it‘s hard to articulate why you have feelings about a book. Station Eleven is my all-time favorite book, and I can articulate superficial reasons for it, the non-linear timeline, Shakespeare, Star Trek, but there‘s something more about it that I can‘t access in a post or review. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y
LiterRohde @Megabooks Loved Station Eleven. 5y
BarbaraBB This sounds so interesting. Thank you for writing about it, I‘m happy the prompt made you and will check out this book. Great review. 5y
Cinfhen I might still own this book @BarbaraBB or I may have gifted it to @TrishB I can‘t remember 🤦‍♀️anyway, I thought it started out really strong and I agree the writing was brilliant but somewhere along the way the book totally nosedived for me. Such an articulate review @LiterRohde I wish I walked away with the same feelings but I felt like the author lost her focus. Like @Megabooks I thought Station 11 was PERFECT 🤷‍♀️ 5y
TrishB @Cinfhen no- you told me to stay away from this one! 5y
Cinfhen Ha @TrishB I‘m pretty sure you would bail!!!! 5y
TNbookworm Great review, although I did not care for this book. 5y

Set in Palm Springs, California, this Alchemist series battles the undead vampires while protecting the good Moroi vampires. The spinoff series to Vampire Academy.

Cinfhen Pirates AND vampires!!! Didn‘t know you like both 😉 5y
CrowCAH @Cinfhen yup, Mead wrote both vampire series very well! I still have yet to read the Vampirates series, but maybe I can write my own story combining the two. 5y
Cinfhen Ha!!! YOU totally could!!!! 5y

Jessie moves to LA from Chicago and must adjust to a new school, and new step-family. She starts getting anonymous emails giving her advice on how to cope at her snobby private school. As much about female friendship and grief, as finding our who the anon emailed is. Tho I figured out the secret pretty early on, I still liked watching Jessie make friends and find a new home. Sweet YA read. #californication #wanderingjune

Cinfhen Can‘t do YA most of the time but sometimes as #brainCandy they‘re perfect 5y
Blaire @Cinfhen yes, I‘ve been on a real YA kick lately. I can tell how stressful work is by the books I need to escape. 5y
