Book three in the series and another hit with me. A solid story and good characters. A short and satisfying Christmas romance. 4⭐️ 💚🎄❤️📖💚📚❤️

My favorite in the series so far, and Three Pines was barely in it! Chief inspector Gamache and his wife are celebrating their anniversary at Manoir Bellechasse, just over the mountain range from Three Pines. Yearly visitors, this visit coincides with the Morrow family reunion, including the Gamache‘s friends from Three Pines, Peter and Clara. The last book hinted at Peter‘s dark side. When a Morrow is killed, is Peter to blame or another ⬇️

Texreader wretched Morrow? Or does the manoir‘s staff have something to hide? An impossible crime to pull off; only the most observant and detail-oriented investigator can pull this one off. And Gamache does so again. The author does struggle in explaining the complexity of the murder but kudos to her for not taking the easy route and giving us an extraordinarily complex murder mystery. #foodandlit #Canada @Catsandbooks #serieslove @TheSpineView ⬇️ 3h

If I had to choose one word for how I felt while reading this series of books, I think it would be “baffled.“ These characters constantly made decisions that made no sense. The narrative frequently made no sense. The motivations made pretty much no sense. A few samples: two grown adults have a “cheesecake fight“ in the kitchen ruining the desert and dinner party they're attending (after the FMC starts EATING IT WITH HER BARE HANDS?!); two people ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) can't remember anything from the night before (including whether or not they GOT MARRIED) and apparently it's not because they were drunk, it's because there is some kind of... holiday magic?? That makes you have no memories?! - guy needs to be married to inherit his grandma's house so he convinces girl to go to Vegas to PRETEND to get married and the guy's lawyer dad totally accepts a few photos of them in wedding clothes as proof and ⬇ 6h
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) deeds everything over to them!? I could go on. I read these with a sort of fascinated horror as to how they could be SO BAD. It was disappointing because the concepts were actually fun and the characters likable (except for “I eat from the middle of the cheesecake with my bare hands before we slice it up to serve to other people“ UGH) and I am genuinely always on the lookout for clean holiday romances, but these just honestly made ⬇ 6h

TheAromaofBooks OH And here's another pet peeve!!! Books that say they are a series and then HAVE ZERO CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THEM!!!! Sharing a loose theme is not what makes a series!!!!! 6h

BookmarkTavern Listen, I‘ve been feral about a good cheesecake before, but never ate it with my bare hands. 🤣🤣 Hope your next reads are better! 1h

This was close to being a “so-so“. The plot was convoluted and barely plausible, and I would have liked to spend more time in Three Pines, but it was still a page-turner with a big finish.

I also liked the new French Canadian audiobook narrator. The previous narrators were great (arguably better) but the mispronounced words made me cringe.

kwmg40 Using this for the “pastry“ prompt of #gottacatchemallwinteredition since a croissant seems to appear in almost every chapter! @PuddleJumper 14h

PuddleJumper They are constantly eating pastries in that series. Murder can wait! Coffee and croissant first 7h

Loved it. 🌶️🥵 great spice. Love how House Gluttony is portrayed, Gabriel‘s plotting & the ICE DRAGONS! Adriana spirals quite a bit, from the perspective of being a single woman without a suitable match who can‘t afford another scandal… it‘s not that I don‘t get it, but ooof. Luckily it doesn‘t dwell there for too long, she was a lil maddening. Really loving this series!

I have to say, I think this is my favorite Discworld book so far. I liked the characters in this one, and the plot was ingenious. Even though it has been over 20 years since this book was published, it is still revelant today. Of course, with Pratchett's signature humor, it was pure fun to read. 4.5⭐️

Ruthiella This was the first Pratchett I read. Loved it! 👍 16h

julesG @Ruthiella That's interesting. Most people either start with Colour of Magic - I didn't, and I'm glad. 😉 12h
julesG Glad you liked it, looking forward to the discussion. 12h
Ruthiella @julesG I bought it at a library book sale on a whim. It turns out to have been a good place to start with the Discworld, now that I‘ve read a handful. 12h
julesG @Ruthiella Just noticed I never followed up with what else people start with. 🤦🏻‍♀️ So either CoM or, in my experience(?), Mort or Witches Abroad. 😁 11h

Super sweet Christmas romance with a single dad, one naughty 6 year old, and a family friend turned nanny. At only 208 pages, this book was a quick listen at work. It had Nicholas Sparks vibes and my only complaint was that it was too short. I liked the characters enough that more development would have been appreciated. 3.5⭐️

Day 2 results for the #WinterGames #HolidayBookDragons @LiseWorks

I read for 8.5 hours yesterday. I finished two books and a third in the early morning hours because of insomnia. I'll count the third book as part of today's results since reading at 2AM is technically today.
