Saving Francesca | Melina Marchetta

Pickpick

#backtoreading #anditsaugust #englishclassclassic

Published in 2003, ten years after her breakout debut novel, Looking for Alibrandi, Saving Francesca is Marchetta's second novel. Just as acclaimed, just as popular, it's a stronger, tighter narrative. It is a staple in many Australian English classrooms when students complete the Oz lit unit. It led to The Piper's Son, and we will soon have Jimmy's story (in 2018, hopefully).

Not keeping up with photo challenges due to travel, but this book is in my sister's house. Since I co-teach a unit on #ToKillaMockingbird every year, of course it's my pick for this days challenge.

I remember reading Macbeth and then having to "translate" a section using modern English.

#backtoreading #englishclassclassic

When I was a junior in high school I had to read these four books for English class. Not only are they my favorites but it changed reading for me. Even though I had been a reader before these books, they awakened something within me and I haven't been able to put books down since. Kudos to all the high school English teachers out there.

I first read this #englishclassclassic in the 10th grade. I absolutely loved it and have read it at least 2 times since. It remains my favorite novel by Dickens. #backtoreading

#BackToReading #EnglishClassClassic

I've never read Virginia Woolf, though l plan to do it very soon.
Always had the impression she's quite difficult to read, but l want to try anyway

Surprisingly I read no Shakespeare at all through high school and college. I made up for it later :)

Kristelh Read all of these, all very good 7y
ApoptyGina69 The Good Earth is terrific. I own more Buck, but haven't read them yet. ?? 7y
Blueberry @Kristelh @ApoptyGina69 I've been wondering if I should reread The Good Earth because I remember nothing about it. I'm not sure my 9th grade self even understood it. 7y
Kristelh I read a lot of Buck in high school and reread a couple more recently. I found that while still good, impact was much less. @Blueberry (edited) 7y
