Mehso-so

Finally finished this collection. While some of the stories were better than others, I‘ve learned that I‘m still not the biggest fan of short stories. However, the stories that I enjoyed the most made me a little misty-eyed, and I appreciated the various topics and settings found in this collection. #FallOPFiction #buddyread

Aims42 Great review! I have yet to find a short stories collection I like, so I‘m extremely hesitant to read them 5y
Crazeedi There are a couple of these on my kindle that I got. With the various authors. I was hoping they would be good reads. I didn't get this one though 5y
Librarybelle @Aims42 Thank you! 5y
Librarybelle @Crazeedi I have a few others too in my collection. There were a few in this collection I really liked. My favorite was probably by Jennifer Robson - it seemed like everything wrapped up nicely. 5y

Pickpick

Final finish for #24in48! I have almost reached the 24hr mark and won‘t finish another book, so this will be final finish.

As with any collection of short stories, some of these were better than others. I have added to my TBR with novels by a few of these authors. I enjoyed this #FallOPFiction with @Librarybelle and @CouronneDhiver and my other fellow readers.

Book 12 of #14books14weeks

Librarybelle Great job! 5y

Pickpick

This was between a pick and so-so for me. I‘m not a short story fan but I didn‘t know much about WWI. That & the #buddyread schedule kept me going.

In honor of the quote above & the Armistice, I wanted to share this awesome recording the Imperial War Museum recreated the sounds of the Armistice.

We‘re on our final week for #FallOPFiction . I‘m a little behind on the short stories...how is everyone else doing?

Later on today I‘ll post info on the next #buddyread . @CouronneDhiver and I are looking for a name for our group. We love doing these buddy reads, and we‘ve consistently hosted several, with a few more in the works, that it‘s time for us to create a more formal name/hashtag for our group. If you have an idea, let us know!

Melissa_J I‘m having trouble with this one. I‘m just not a short story fan. Willig‘s was well done, but I‘ve not been able to get much beyond it 🙁 5y
Librarybelle @Melissa_J I put it down to focus on other readings with deadlines, and I‘m struggling to pick it back up, even though I know I could get through a short story a night. I‘m definitely more of a novel person than a short story person, but I‘m glad I‘m trying this! 5y
megnews I finished. Getting ready to post a review. As far as short stories go these weren‘t bad. I did t know much about wwi so I think that‘s what kept me going. 5y

Mollyanna I‘m about halfway through. Like @Librarybelle I had to put it down for some other reads. The short stories are quick and I hope to have it finished by next week. 5y
Librarybelle @megnews Glad it kept your interest! 5y
Librarybelle Sounds good, @Mollyanna ! 5y

I went a little crazy online with Barnes and Noble...my spoils were delivered to the post office today. I trekked in the 1,000 degree heat (exaggeration, but I really loathe hot weather) to get them.

A few cozies, the new Willig Book, and some thrown in just because...I seriously need weeks off of work to indulge in all of these books! #bookhaul

MicheleinPhilly This weather is the HORRIBLE. I hate it so much. But great haul! 5y
Tamra I‘m anxious to see if you like the new Willig! 5y

Librarybelle @Tamra 👍🙂❤️ 5y
Melissa_J We should buddy read The Summer Country 😊 5y
Librarybelle @Melissa_J We should! @CouronneDhiver , would you be interested? 5y
CouronneDhiver I‘m in! The only Willig I haven‘t finished and loved is That Summer, but I think I‘d enjoy it in print. Library only had the audio. 5y
Librarybelle @CouronneDhiver @Melissa_J Yay! A #buddyread on Willig‘s newest! We‘re still finishing up #FallOPFiction , so let‘s think of something later this month. I‘d be open to maybe the last weekend, if that‘s okay? I can also work up the suggested reading timeline and post about it tomorrow. What do you think? 5y
Lynnsoprano I really enjoyed the Willig. What a great haul! And I keep telling myself, only 4 more months until a cool front... 5y
Librarybelle @Lynnsoprano Thanks! And, hooray for future cool fronts! 5y
kspenmoll Great deal! I have the lost queen. Buddy read sometime? 5y
kspenmoll @Melissa_J Great idea re Willig buddy read! 5y
Melissa_J Awesome! Oh, and I also have The Lost Queen and The Royal Secret. Just sayin‘. @kspenmoll 5y
Librarybelle @kspenmoll @Melissa_J It sounds like we have a line up of books for the next several months! What do you think of The Lost Queen and The Royal Secret as future buddy reads, @CouronneDhiver ? I‘m thinking too that we need to come up with a buddy read name for our group! 5y
CouronneDhiver Yes!!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 5y
kspenmoll Sounds great!! 5y

We‘re onto week two of our #FallOPFiction #buddyread ! So far, I like Jennifer Robson‘s story the best, though I‘m partial to anything by Willig. What are your thoughts?

StayCurious I liked the first story but I felt it wrapped up too quickly and nicely. That‘s the problem sometimes with short stories. I think the love story could have been fleshed out a bit. Willig‘s was well-written and intriguing-but I was left feeling let down and sad at the end. I guess I don‘t like when romances don‘t work out because of misunderstandings. 5y
Melissa_J I have read the first story and am more than halfway through the Willig (but will finish tonight). I‘m not a fan of short stories, but thought this collection would be similar to other historical fiction short story collaborations I‘ve read where each individual story is connected. I‘m a little sad it doesn‘t appear to be the case. 5y
Librarybelle @StayCurious @Melissa_J I usually don‘t read short stories, as I too have some issues with plot holes and lack of connection. I‘m liking these so far, but also recognizing that I feel parts of the stories are missing or things seemed to rushed at the end. I‘m glad to be reading these with other Littens and seeing what everyone has to say! 5y

megnews I‘m in the middle of Holland‘s. I agree with @StayCurious that Willig‘s love story was unsatisfying. So far I like Robson‘s the best. 5y
Librarybelle @megnews I felt out of the ones I‘ve read so far, Robson better connected the storyline together...less parts still unanswered. 5y
Melissa_J I recommend this, which is a collection of linked stories about Pompeii 5y
Pamwurtzler I like Robson‘s the best so far as well. Holland‘s was a different take from the wounded soldier story, but it felt really disconnected to me. 5y
Chrissyreadit Would you consider this an accurate picture of WW1? Wondering if this would be worth having my teens read. 5y

From Holland‘s story. This collection has some mouth-watering descriptions of food.
