This book is amazing!!! I have been sucked into it from page one! I originally had to read this for school and I was still amped up for it because so love to read but this book is perfect for anyone transitioning into 6th,7th, or 8th. Korman uses the best descriptive language and is always ready to surprise you! I would have you read it immediately!

This was a great “no holds barred” read about an absolute legend written by an absolute legend. Gazza is a truly remarkable and troubled individual, I couldn‘t put this one down. #justfinished #gazza #paulgascoigne #livinglegend #autobiography #readbooks #drinkbeer #upthebooknerds #punkswhoread #football #footballlegends #soccer #newcastleunited #spurs #england #lazio #locallegends

#Booked2019 #Autumn #SoldiersStory

*This book is one I was absolutely not looking forward to reading. On the recommendation of a great friend, I decided to give it a go. This book is utterly fantastic. It is an older book (2012), so I‘m sure loads of Littens have already read it, so I‘ll make it brief. Three points: a) Fountain has his thumb firmly on the pulse of American culture; b) he is a wordsmith of the highest caliber—I learned ⬇️

gradcat ⬆️ (Cont.) several new ones; c) he is writing about a particular American city (Dallas) where I lived for about a decade, and he was so spot-on that I cringed internally at certain scenes—they were too (unfortunately) familiar. All the action takes place in a day (although some of Billy‘s thoughts are of past events) and this just heightens the “you are here” ambience of the book. I loved it. ♥️ (edited) 1w
Theaelizabet I loved this book for all the reasons you give and certainly meant to read more by him, which I didn‘t. I need to cycle back around to him. 1w
CarolynM I'm sold. Stacked🙂 1w

gradcat @Theaelizabet You know, I checked into his other books, precisely because I found him so good. He seems to publish a book every six years. The first, “Brief Encounters with Che Guevara” (2006), is short stories, albeit loosely connected ones, and the one he published last year (tagged) is nonfiction. Since I fell in love with his long-form fiction, I haven‘t raced out to buy these, but you know, they‘re probably good. I should try them. ♥️ 1w
gradcat @CarolynM I think you‘ll be surprised at how fast you get through it—it absolutely flows! ♥️ 1w
Cinfhen I tried this book when it was first released and I couldn‘t get into it. I had bailed early on but your review makes me want to try again 😊 1w
gradcat @Cinfhen At the risk of repeating myself, I was REALLY not looking forward to it. And that‘s what I like about #Booked2019 ... I loved this book, and would never have read it if it wasn‘t for Litsy. I think I read this book in about two days, and I don‘t read very fast anymore. It just held my attention so well—almost accidentally, I think—strictly owing to those three reasons I wrote about in my review. If you do try it again, I hope you like it. 6d

This is hard to pin down. It‘s well-written, the narrator compelling, it‘s important...but I didn‘t like it or enjoy reading it.

Keir is graduating from high school, and everyone will tell you he‘s a good guy. But his senior year becomes a slippery slope of partying and poor decisions, exacerbated by poor parental oversight. Vandalism, harassment, and eventually date rape are all explained away as “misunderstandings.”

Read this after Speak.

This book is fiction and it‘s one of the most interesting books I‘ve ever read. This book is about an 8th grader named Daniel, he thinks his life is “weird”. But his life gets weirder when another girl at school, who is unkindly named psycho Sara, notices him for the first time, and she doesn‘t just notice him; she seems to peer through him. Then Daniel gets a note, “I need your help” signed, Fellow star child.

Once again: I don't have a clue about Football. But you don't have to have to enjoy this touching friendship story. I never really thought about what crashes in sport can do to your health - Korman shows us. Just as he shows us what such a disease could do to your family. And through Marcus the author also shows us that it's important to stand up for what you thing is right.

LiljaPleasant Uh. That might be one for my dad. I just have to find out if there is a german edition 2w
Jari-chan @LiljaPleasant I couldn't find a German edition, but maybe you do 😊 2w
LiljaPleasant @Jari-chan yeah, sure... if you can't, I will 🤣 Nah... Couldn't find one either 1w
