>> Here's a truly bone-chilling #truecrime pick from the great true crime historian and writer #HaroldSchechter. He chooses the most fascinating subjects and has a great writing style.

"Bestial: The Savage Trail of a True American Monster," published in 1998, tells the story of the brutal savagery of #serialkiller Earle Leonard Nelson.

It's creepy af...truth is stranger than fiction ☠️

Panic | Harold Schechter
post image

“A terrifying cautionary essay, Panic explores the combustible mix of unfounded fears, moral crusades, and the dangers of collective thinking.” Uuum...maybe this should be required thinking, especially for “the base” if you get what I‘m saying. If this wasn‘t true crime, it could be modern politics. 🤦🏼‍♀️ #BloodlandsSeries #HaroldSchechter #Panic

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Thanks for sharing, just went and got em. 4y
GingerAntics @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego you‘re welcome! I‘m glad I could share the love. They‘re the perfect length for a single sitting. If I have any complaint, it‘s that I would have gladly had it longer. 4y

A great, quick little story for the true crime fan without too much gore. It‘s basically just the facts. There are plenty of details from Pa Bender and his son first settling and building the inn to their escape, all of the supposed sightings, and theories of their end. It‘s a quick listen, but very enjoyable for those interested in history or true crime in America.

GingerAntics There is even a brief mention of Laura Ingles Wilder at the very end for those who stumbled upon this story that way. 4y

Texreader 👍🏻 Thanks for the reminder. I‘m going to try to fit this one in soon. 4y
GingerAntics @Texreader it‘s already over. It really is a quick one. It‘s not all that scary. It‘s firmly nonfiction. It wasn‘t bad at all. The narrator told the story quite well, and LIW is mentioned at the very end. 4y
