Tonight I saw an American Shakespeare Center production of Sense & Sensibility. It was so well done and really fun! They also sang before the show and during intermission, which added to the experience. #JaneAusten200

Graciouswarriorprincess I so wanted to see that. It‘s the one thing about my job that I don‘t like. I can‘t do anything in the evenings anymore! 7y
MallenNC I know! That's too bad. 7y

Lovely to see so many #janeites dressed in their finest at Jane Austen House.
But this lady actually sat in the garden and read. #bestfangirlever #janewouldapprove #lifegoals #janeausten200

It was one of her delightful qualities; she wept with those who wept.

To prolong that Austen feeling when you've read all or most of Austen, here is Lizzie Skurnick on Joan Aiken's Austen spinoff novels. I loved Aiken's Wolves Chronicles series for children but was worried about whether these books would measure up to Austen's work. Skurnick makes a wonderful case for Aiken's books and I hope to give them a try: https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/07/14/books/review/joan-aiken-jane-austen-spinof... #janeausten200

saresmoore Wow, yes! I hadn't heard of these, but I'm eager to try them now, too! 7y
readinginthedark Oh, Jane Fairfax. I always felt like she had the crappiest choices in life. 7y
Ms_T What's your favourite Austen novel? I've not read anything by her and I need to change that immediately! 7y

batsy @readinginthedark I know, I feel like she got a raw deal too! Also Charlotte Lucas. And Mary Bennet 😬 7y
batsy @Ms_T My fav is Persuasion, that might change in a few years! I think if you're reading for the first time P&P and Emma are good, if you don't get on with those then you know Austen is probably not for you ☺️ 7y
Ms_T @batsy I was erring towards Emma before I messaged you so that's the one. Thank you, lovely 😘 7y
batsy @Ms_T Excellent, hope you enjoy it! 7y
merelybookish Jane Aiken is one of those writers that pops up occasionally but I've only ever found her kids' books. 7y
RohitSawant This seems fascinating! I loved Joan Aiken‘s The Wolves of Willoughby Chase, but had no idea it was a series! I need to check that out. 7y
batsy @merelybookish I can only find her children's books, too! Yes it's more like a series of linked books set in that era, @rohit-sawant and not so much a direct follow-up. 7y
ValerieAndBooks I remember this book when it first came out -- I think it was an early example of the current trend for different authors to do a spin-off of a classic novel! But for some reason never did pick it up. 7y

I mean, I know I chose Mr. Rochester, but I still think Mr. Darcy is pretty swell. (Especially Colin Firth 😍😍😍).

#JaneAusten200 📚 Admittedly, I have not read all of Ms. Austen's novels, but of the ones I have Sense & Sensibility is my favorite. If I ever have a daughter there is a real possibility I will name her Elinor.

This quote still gives me butterflies. The mastermind behind this and so many enriching novels that continue to culture our population died 200 years ago today. Happy bicentennial, Miss Jane Austen ♡
